Well, they really don't have live PPVs anymore so giving away matches on free tv is not that big of a deal as it used to be. That's true, but they could still take a while and build up to a "spcial episode" or something for a match like Angle/Lashley. Instead, they set it up and did it within 3 weeks. That's how they operate now, makes for good week to week TV but I'd say it leads to burnout and eventual resets, and in the end the company is always sort of re-finding itself. The reasons that giving away things week to week on TV are simple: 1. TNA still has PPV's but if they get big PPV quality matches each week on TV why would I buy the PPV? Even if you gimmick it up I see THAT every week on TV as well so Lashley taking on Angle in a cage means nothing because I saw 5 cage matches for free on TV a month or two ago. 2. It becomes boring. If every week I have a title change or a big match or a gimmick match why am I going to tune in when they happen? If it's common place and just apart of the show why is it interesting? It's not. 3. At this point TNA has basically exhausted every big match possible except Austin Aries Vs Kurt Angle and I'm sure they'll toss that away on Impact with 2 weeks build soon. This means within 3-4 months every main event will have been seen 2-3 times until fans get sick of it. How many times did we see Lashley Vs Roode? Three? Four times? In a three month period. They give away more main events in a month then WWE does in six.

Is it just me or has Impact been really quite enjoyable of late? When they first debuted on Destination America I was happy to see them back but the booking of the first couple of shows sucked any goodwill they'd built up whilst off the air. Recently though (pretty much since the very poor Lockdown episode) I've really been enjoying the show. I am invested in the angles from competition based stuff (Lashley/Angle) to hate based stuff (ECIII/Spud, Magnus/Bram, EY/Roode) and even the stupid yet entertaining stuff (Brooke/Robbie E). I know it's a dangerous thing to say round these parts and since it is TNA I'm sure they'll screw this up sooner rather than later but I am really enjoying the shows lately. It is a dangerous thing to say in general. How dare someone actually enjoy TNA. Myself, I've enjoyed far more than ROH or Raw. There's nothing about the show I find stupid, pointless, or irrational. Everything just seems like wrestling people are putting together to appeal to wrestling fans. Lots of good workers, some good promos, serious with some funny. But that's just me.

I just saw my first Impact in a LONG time (last weeks) and..... yeah, it's great. It really is.
In some insane stroke of innovation, they seem to have a program about wrestling that's centered around wrestlers doing wrestling. It's wild.

I just saw my first Impact in a LONG time (last weeks) and..... yeah, it's great. It really is. In some insane stroke of innovation, they seem to have a program about wrestling that's centered around wrestlers doing wrestling. It's wild. Pretty much; I can't say its my favorite of all the current wrestling shows, but focusing more on the in-ring aspect of things (even more of the promos really seem to pay off in the ring than they used to) has been an enormous boon. I liken it to a sports team having to rebuild after a bunch of losing seasons: you dump your older, expensive talent, look to get younger players/prospects/draft picks, and deal with a few more years of being down but now with the potential to improve instead of a steady decline. In terms of its on-screen product, TNA having to cut so much of its budget has largely been a good thing...no, losing AJ, Joe, etc. will never be a good thing, but it's at least forced them to refocus on telling their stories in the ring more often, and it means less reliance on WWE/WCW/ECW stars of yesteryear. The sad part is that it's something TNA probably should've done years ago, and it's sad to think where they might be now if they had bitten the bullet earlier and said "screw it, we're only keeping a few older guys around, we're going to focus on in-ring work, we're going to start bringing in more young indy talent", etc. etc., instead of waiting until the writing was on the wall with Spike.

I personally think that there is plenty of issues with the show but it's not horrible. In fact, there's a decent amount of stuff that I enjoy. ECIII and Spud was the best feud in wrestling (although, I would assume that's over now) and I'm interested in Angle/Lashley (I'm not interested in the inevitable end result but hey, what can you do? Network obligations and all that). Bram/Magnus is also a good feud where I'm looking forward to the conclusion. So, I would call it hit or miss. Some shows are enjoyable/fun and other shows are pretty rotten. That said, the overall product is a step-up from their Spike days, that's for sure. They always seem to step up their game when they tape shows overseas so I'm sure that has something to do with the improved product right now. I share this feeling. Despite some of the faults, it has been enjoyable for quite a while.

I definitely think they've been better, I think it's the best the show has been since the Russo demob-happy "I don't care anymore, Hogan and Bisch are coming in soon, let 'em wrestle" Impacts of mid-to-late 2009.
Problem is they're putting on a better product when they've already lost hundreds of thousands of viewers. There's the lingering sense that it's whistling in the graveyard.

I'm really glad people are enjoying Impact as of late. I really hope that trend continues. Having more enjoyable options on TV is a great thing for the wrestling industry.
However, I just feel like it's too little, too late. Impact threads were great here, and I'm sure they still are. But I don't have Destination America, I can't watch it live because of the move to Fridays, and I refuse to buy a higher tier subscription package for Impact. Unless there's some way I can watch the shows online legally without incurring any extra costs, I'm done. TNA failed to get that level of trust from me from the years of chances I gave them to follow them through this, and now that the barrier for entry is significantly raised for me, it's just not worth crossing right now. Maybe if TNA can maintain this standard for several months and keep you guys talking about it like this, I'd probably give them another shot somehow.

I honestly can't stand the production values now. Their shows are so f***ing dark. ECW had cheap cameras but at least they had lighting so you could see what was happening.

I've been really enjoying Impact as of late. Not as much as Lucha Underground, but it's kind of unfair to compare anything WWE or TNA is doing to LU; it's just in its own category, in my opinion.
The only thing I don't care for is how quiet the crowd seems to be. I get why they had to go back to the Impact Zone, but f***, a lifeless crowd can just suck the joy out of a great segment.
Now in all fairness I didn't get to watch all of last week's Impact (have it taped but I've just been busy), so I didn't see anything past the whole Hardy's Revenge thing and the first match, but the crowd was as meh as could be.

IS IT JUST ME OR IS IT FREAKIN HOT IN HERE?!!! I google image searched "Hogan it's not hot" so I could find a picture of Hogan quoting it's not hot in the dungeon of doom segment to add to this post and instead all I got was pictures of Brooke Hogan.
