News coming out of Mexico today that Perro Aguayo Jr has passed away as a result of cervical spinal cord trauma. SourceEDIT: Credit to G.B. for a more precise cause of death.

Woah, that's insane.
Apparently Rey just did his usual dropkick to set up the 619 but Aguayo fell on the ropes awkwardly, suffering cervical spinal cord trauma from which he never recovered (similar to Mitsuharu Misawa).
RIP

Good god, poor man. My best goes to his loved ones. And thoughts with Rey Mysterio too, I'm sure he's devastated

Makes me wonder if he took any insane bumps in his matches prior or this match to do that on such a seemingly routine spot.

Makes you respect the sport a lot more knowing that a simple move can end someones life.

Thinking about it, i can just imagine how falling just a few inches short means ur neck snapping against those wound up cables they use for ropes. Hard to believe something so small can be that deadly serious...

There's a video on YouTube of him on the ropes, getting checked on by Konnan and then being carried out. I had to watch it because I just couldn't believe it when I heard the news. This is such a freak thing and a horrible tragedy. RIP Perro Aguayo Jr.

The spot it self looks so commonplace and unremarkable on the video, too. That's what he died from , its crazy.
Poor dude.

Horrific tragedy. And it really wasn't something that could be prepared for, outside of retiring early. A devastating loss for the Lucha community. Especially AAA.
Hopefully his family will be ok, as will Rey.

This is such a freak thing and a horrible tragedy. RIP Perro Aguayo Jr. I watched the video too, I'm pretty sure that Konnan did him no favors by shaking him after he came off the ropes and was on the apron. I don't think he knew what happened, but it certainly didn't help. I just can't understand why the match wasn't stopped immediately. You see Manik notice something is wrong with him, and Rey smartly missed him with the 619 and looked confused with what was going on. Them not calling an end to the match may have cost him precious seconds and they might have had a better chance of saving him. The whole thing is sad.

Awful awful news. He probably didn't even think twice about such a routine spot. This is terrible.

That video is awful. The guy looked like he was dead right there on the ropes. Very sad.

From watching the videos, I really don't think they could have easily told that something was wrong and that he wasn't just selling, initially, at least. For such a routine spot, and from how long it usually takes to set up the 619 anyway, the only reason you would notice something was wrong was that he was slumped over more than usual and wasn't adjusting himself/bracing himself like most guys about to take the 619 usually do.
It's about as freak as a freak accident can be, to be honest, which makes it even more depressing in a way.
