Earlier in the year Dreamer revealed on the Austin podcast, that while he was running developmental he was gonna sign Abyss so that he could work with Undertaker on the future but Abyss got scared and decided to stay in TNA. On another interview Abyss confirmed that he rejected the WWE offer because of his loyalty to Dixie.
Do you think that Abyss is regretting the decision now? Being fat and working on a network that does worse ratings than CSPAN?

Braden Walker thinks he's a genius.
Vince hates guys with giant guts, and Abyss has that.
You can get away with having a gut if you are amazing at promo's(Wyatt, Foley), and he is simply adequate.
He also plays the "big guy gimmick", but in WWE he would look really small compared to a lot of guys

Of course not. He finished at the top of his class in law school. Sadly though, he stepped on a thumb tack and contracted lead poisoning which ruined his brain.

No. In early TNA commentary, Tenay and West constantly stressed how Abyss was not stupid, just that he had a one track mind.
And how could you not trust the things said by representatives of TNA?

Even if Abyss stuck around in WWE for a year he could have made a lot of money therefore the answer is yes. He is stupid.
It's like turning down a spot in the NFL because you want to play in the local league.

Being serious, you could actually argue he made the right decision in terms of his longevity. If he had gone to WWE, I could all too easily have seen him ending up as another Nathan Jones or Gene Snitksy; he'd have been around for a few years, had one or two notable programs, and then just been future endeavored. By sticking with TNA he has stayed consistently at the top of the pack all the while. And to be honest, I doubt the pay would have been all that much different. Of course, people assume that because its WWE they would automatically pay him more, but given the stories about guys like Del Rio making far more as indy wrestlers than they ever did WWE, I doubt Abyss's pay range would have been all that much different. The only thing I would say he really missed out on is the other potential doors that being in WWE could have opened for him. Again, I'll reference Nathan Jones and Snitksy, both of whom have gone on to minor but steady careers in acting even though they did not do much of real note in WWE; by sheer merit of WWE's prominence they were able to get a foot in the door in Hollywood, where they can make pay just as good with a less demanding schedule and far less physical punishment. Couldn't you just picture Abyss selling pressure cookers?

I don't think Abyss is stupid for not leaving TNA for WWE. More like him not wanting to leave his comfort zone and rather take 1000 thumbtack spots & bleeding instead of blazing a new trail. Abyss many years ago was hailed as one of the standout big men wrestlers out there during a time when that was a valued commodity. But he got cold feet about moving into the big league and went full bore into garbage wrestling. And look where he is now. Broken down. A shell of himself. Can't even do his trademark moves with screwing it up. No longer get big reactions when bleeding or taking yet another thumbtack bump.

Watch old Abyss matches and take a drink every time Mike or Don says "There's that tunnel vision!" You will die.

I think he could have taken a much smarter approach to the business. Even his friend James Mitchell has criticized him for using such a hardcore style like using thumbtacks too often, especially during regular TV matches that don't mean much.

Sometimes, people like being a big fish in a small pond. There's that to consider.
