What does getting pumelled by wrestlers surrounding the ring have to do with chopping down trees?

I want to say that Jerry Lawler of all people explained on Raw one time that it was because in the old logging camps the other lumberjacks would surround two guys fighting so that neither of them could get away and there had to be a winner.

It's a lumberjack match and it's ok. They sleep all night and they work all day.

That works. I figured it was either that or they'd roll guys back in the ring like logs, but yours makes more sense.

It is Scott Norton, John Nord, and was Matt Osborne's signature match.

I think there could be a movie premise in secret, underground Lumberjack fighting competitions.

Jesse Ventura said what Lawler said while introducing a lumberjack match on one of the early Coliseum Videos.

I wish the red flannel shirts were still a thing. That was the best part of lumberjack matches.

I think there could be a movie premise in secret, underground Lumberjack fighting competitions. One lumberjack has his elbow injured with a cross armbar in a fight and as his elbow cracks out of place he screams "Ahhh!!! That's my ax swinging arm!" I wish the red flannel shirts were still a thing. That was the best part of lumberjack matches. If I owned a promotion the red flannel would be mandatory for lumberjack matches and if I was a wrestler I'd keep a red flannel shirt in my gear bag in case I'm conscripted into lumberjack duty. Also, Lumberjack matches should have a "capture the flag" element where if you strip a lumberjack of their flannel then they're out of the match!

We thought Mick Foley was being cheap and unfashionable, but all this time he was just planning ahead.

If that was the rule the heel in that match could get tremendous heat by stealing all of the baby face's red flannel shirts thus having his fellow heels as the remaining legal lumberjacks.

It's a lumberjack match and it's ok. They sleep all night and they work all day. So halfway through it turns into a bra & panties match?

Nobody brings it up very often, but in addition to pinfall and submission, a Lumberjack match can also be won by cutting down a tree.

Originally the winner of the match was awarded a plate of 298 pancakes.

I think we need to go back to the days of picking your own lumberjacks. It was so cool seeing Shawn Michaels lead Diesel's lumberjacks to battle. Having the team element makes it that much cooler than every guy we didn't book will just stand around the ring in their gear
