Money is not like sex. No means no, and yes means yes, binary.
Supply and demand. If people are willing to pay that much, they are that stupid.
Exception? Possibly being drunk or high when you make the purchase, but then that's a question about capitalism as a whole.

I think if you basically hustle some kid out of his money by way of your "fame" you're kind of a sleaze.

That's just absolutely ridiculous. I'm actually beside myself in shock. Who is this actress anyway? Not like she's anyone who actually matters in Hollywood. Alanna Masterson According to IMDB she's been in 23 episodes.

According to IMDB she's been in 23 episodes. There was another dude next to her doing the same and that is who the report said had been in one episode. Either way, Tom Atkins will signs your stuff and take a pic for $20, then actually remember your name and say hi to you for free the next day.

My fun memory was at a local show that had Bobby Heenan. Soon as they announced intermission was starting and Bobby was signing autographs (I jumped in line) ...for 15 dollars. (I got out.) My brother stayed in line, walked up to the Brain and shook Bobby's hand. "I don't have 15 dollars, I just wanted to shake your hand and say thank you for all the good memories." Now, I watched from the bleachers. That was cool. Then the two of us walked the two-three blocks to our parents' and he shook dad's hand. Dad thought that was neat...and he saved 15 bucks.

Gotta make a living somehow. The living should come from the booking fee (which is usually decent) and actually selling merchandise. If a wrestler wants to sell photos of themselves or a T-Shirt I think that's great. The issue is when someone spends 25 dollars at a table and then the performer says "Okay, I won't sign it unless you give me another 20". That goes past making a living and into greed In regards to appearance fees, it really depends. I know a guy who works with a local pop culture convention which brings in wrestlers, comic artists, and TV & film stars ranging from Sons of Anarchy cast members to Doug "Pinhead" Bradley to voice actors from Spongebob Squarepants (the photo in my sig of me with Tippi Hedren, star of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds," was taken at one event) and he said that several of the guests actually didn't charge them an appearance fee and relied solely on autograph and photo op sales at their tables. One he mentioned specifically, who I made it a point to meet, was Elvira. I can't remember what the autograph fee was, but if you didn't have an item of your own, she had several 8x10s at the table and that autograph fee covered the pic and the signature. Some guests, like Sid Haig, will charge you a little less if you bring your own item. Of course, I'm sure there were some who charged a fee AND stuck it to people at the tables as much as they could get away with. I'm betting Dustin Diamond was one of those people.

How much of that is an exaggeration? An actress who has been in one episode of Walking Dead was charging $10 just to talk to her, not to mention overcharging for everything else. If it was Christian Serratos who plays Rosita I would take out a bank loan.

In all my experiences seeing Elvira at different events, she's never charged for photos. Signatures, yes, but photos have always been completely free, even without purchase.

Pro wrestlers are carnies, they're going to try to scrounge every dollar they can. Its the entire nature of the pro wrestling business.

Hulk Hogan was charging a buttload for an autograph and even more for a picture at something like that a year ago I believe. And it might have even been per person too (As in the cost is per person in the picture)

Oh the movie conventions are getting crazy. At a recent one, some Walking Dead folks were now charging 10 dollars just to say hi. How much of that is an exaggeration? If he said "We had to wait eight weeks for our hello, and even then it was a let down." I'd 100% believe him.

I mean, I'm all for people being responsible with money and not judging them to spend it on what they want to make them happy, but I think it's completely fair to knock guys like Virgil who are known to pressure the mentally ill into swindling them out of money. Guys who scourge upon the weak and the meek are such subhuman scum, there's no way to defend that.

I have absolutely no care about whether people decide to give away their money, that they earned, if they choose to do so, or what they buy with it.
If you want to buy autographs or crowdfund someone or something, go for it. If not, don't.
It's not that complicated.

I don't mind paying a little bit if it's someone I really want to meet and get an autograph off. I paid an extra $20 on top of the ticket price of Mick Foley's comedy show to do a meet & greet afterwards, where I could also get autographs and photos. I also wound up meeting and getting photos with Orlando Jordan, who was a special guest there that night.
The only other wrestling I've met is Paul London, and he wasn't charging for anything. He was doing a small indy show here a few years ago. I went up to him after the show, and he was more than happy to chat to my friends and I and take photos with us. One friend then got a call from her boyfriend who was picking us up (who is also a wrestling fan). Paul then took the phone, apologised for keeping us and had a 5 minute chat with him.

I think it is a little sad really, but that's what is happening. A couple years ago I met Honky Tonk Man and Jim Cornette on different occasions. Jim was selling a book and t shirts, but posed for pictures for free. He signed my book and I think he gave me a signed picture for free, or maybe it was 10 dollars perhaps, but he was really cool about it and was more than happy to talk to me.
Honky Tonk Man had a little guy for a manager and I could tell he was giving me a spiel about how I should spend 25 dollars to get an autographed picture and he did pose with me with Ric Flair's big gold belt, which was still alright. It was at a flea market though and felt a little sad compared to Jim Cornette's random sci fi convention appearance
Before conventions were such a big deal, I met Mickie James at an auto show-every year, WWE would provide 2 wrestlers and you could take a picture and get a signed photo for free-simple as that.
One cool thing is Rey Mysterio was there the night before and they said he stayed an extra hour or so to make sure everyone got to see him that wanted to. They announced that Mickie couldn't sign every little thing that fans were bringing her due to time after awhile, but she made the decision to do it anyway, which was also very cool.
