...that seem bizarre it retrospect.
I've been doing every PPV from 1998 and 1999 on the WWE Network and it's really shocked me how popular with the crowd Al Snow was. Nowadays Al Snow is probably remembered as a nondescript trainer on Tough Enough but the crowds in 1999 are so behind snow, it's just weird.
Another I was thinking of is X-Pac. Known today for his disaterous personal life and still wearing DX colours in 2000, but again, he had the crowds solidly behind him in 1999 until that heel turn towards the end of the year, completely killing any crowd interest in him, well, forever.
Any others?

Damien Mizdow... not that the guy isn't good, but the whole gimmick getting over is just weird.

As much as I still like the guy and feel that he got a raw deal out of the whole thing at the time... Zack Ryder. He was WHITE HOT in mid-late 2011 off the back of his webshow, despite only being solid but unspectacular in the ring and not that great on a live mic.

Rikishi. He smothered people with his huge dimpled butt.

Given some of the extremely NON-over things he had done previously in the WWF, it always struck me as funny how crowds totally went nuts for the Godfather.

Sid always seemed to be over with the fans. Sid was crazy charismatic though. I'd put him right up there with Hogan and Flair in terms of charisma. If he had been a little more impressive and dependable in a few other columns, he could have been in everybody's top 10 list.

I've actually been re-watching all of the Royal Rumbles, again, and not only does the Godfather get a huge pop everytime, the crowd also boos in dissapointment when ever he got eliminated. Same with Rikishi.

There's several guys during the attitude era that were surprisingly over in hindsight. The fact that there's only about ten guys on the roster now that are legitimately really over makes it more bizarre when you look back in retrospect. If you watch the 2000 Royal Rumble almost every guy in the match gets a reaction. Even midcard guys like Test, Val Venis, and Edge get big pops when they come out.

He wasn't white hot They chanted "We Want Ryder" during a Rock promo. I guess we have different definitions of white hot. In my opinion only a handful of guys have been white hot. I heard a we want Lana chant Monday night but don't consider her white hot (just smoking hot)

I went to a Smackdown taping in 1999, a week after the Droz accident. D-Lo Brown was the first "name" to wrestle a dark match (or maybe it was Heat) He was the second match but the first was a then-unknown Kurt Angle vs. a jobber. So, when D-Lo came out, the crowd went insane. To this day, it surprises me. Maybe they just didn't like Droz. ...Kidding. I was always down with the Brown. Around the same time frame, how about Debra during her run with Double J and Owen? No discernible charisma, an annoying voice, couldn't bake (ask Stone Cold?) and never really played the damsel in distress. She only ever brought two things to the table.
