The song in this game is glorious. I love that it never stops.

The plot to this game is like some Japanese conspiracy nut's wet dream come true.

If anyone is looking for other WTF Japanese games, I recommend checking out Takeshi no Chōsenjō, which you play as a businessman who walks around town, is allowed to get drunk, divorce his wife and pay alimony. Oh, and a couple things in order to beat the game, you must stare at a wall for an hour in real time, as well as sing karaoke via Famicom microphone. Quite possibly the only terrible game Taito ever made. Yeah, I remember JonTron doing that game, and it's one of his best episodes ever. But at least there was content in that game. Original content. Lots of it. This is nothing but a bunch of photoshopped images inserted into a video game, including, of course, a photo of a deceased man from 1992.

It takes a certain kind of demented brilliance to deliberately make a game as frustrating, nonsensical, and unclear as possible. And there's some brilliant satire of Japanese life and society in that game. Takeshi Kitano may have made that game that way precisely because he hated video games, but I think he inadvertently made one of the most original and fascinating games ever made.

Well, Beat Takeshi is one of the most fascinating men in Japanese pop culture overall. Who else could be a visionary film director, actor, game show host, provoke a riot in a New Japan show that would result in the company being banned from the building for a few years, this game, being a poet and a painter. And starting as part of a comedy duo, no less!
