The title made me think of Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" where the wrestler would be almost robotic until he/she is programmed with a new character. That'd be great. That was the first gimmick of the Super Smash Brothers. You'd put an NES cart in the cart pocket on their gear and they'd act like the game. They had Bring Your Own Cart matches.

Matt Sydal/Evan Bourne just kind of showed up on ECW, gave Shelton Benjamin a hell of a fight and I believe was counted out. He came back the following week and became a fixture in the mid card until his injuries and wellness

I think it would have to be more like a bizarre sideshow "choose your own adventure" gimmick. You put the guy out there in nothing but a green t-shirt, green trunks, brown boots (and a green hat for his entrances). Certain things will happen involving him, a poll will be put on WWE.com or the WWE App on how you want him to respond. Even his finisher will be determined through a poll. And the evolution of the gimmick is basically decided entirely by WWE App votes; a cypher who becomes whoever they vote for him to become on the App (over time). "Ol' Green Hat."

As you may or may not have picked up on, Cody Rhodes will probably be saddened that he does not get that gimmick...

No
WWE needs to get back to character based gimmicks.

I don't see the problem with this concept- a blank slate character could absolutely get over in this modern era, even given that the WWE doesn't give many people character-based gimmicks and makes almost everyone generic guys who are blank slates.
You just have to cast a smark darling in the role, and watch the fans project what they did in the past onto their WWE character. When the smoke clears, you have a blank slate superstar.

Most of the roster already are blank slates. They can change from week to week depending on what shitty contrived storyline WWE wants to push.

The thing I want, more than anything else in wrestling, is a Walter White thing. A guy who comes in as a normal, regular dude who slowly is corrupted by his ego and desire to be champion. Bit by bit, he compromises his ideals and slowly becomes an awful person.

Give it to an indy darling, and don't have them win the belt for a while to make it a huge moment like WM 20. Have them slowly lose it as they become more obsessed with keeping the title, until they snap.
