In the world of wrestling, there have been plenty of cards on a pay-per-view show in which you wonder why certain matches were even on the show to begin with. One of the greatest examples is Great American Bash 2004, which only four matches were announced in advance, which were three title matches, and Undertaker vs. The Dudleys. I seriously doubt anybody paid to watch Luther Reigns vs. Charlie Haas, or even Kenzo Suzuki vs. Billy Gunn. Then again, December 2 Dismember has that show beat, when only TWO matches were announced and the rest were there to fill time. Seriously, both of these shows could have easily passed for Smackdown or ECW on SyFy, respectively, and nobody would have noticed.
I also remember how WCW had some questionable PPV matches as well. I remember actually seeing Jerry Flynn vs. The Cat at Uncensored 1999, when it really didn't need to be on PPV, or even Wrath vs. Glacier at World War 3 1998.
What are some other examples?

a good portion of ECW PPVs had matches that weren't announced prior to the card

Didn't the Crime Time guys have a PPV singles match against each other? Yes, complete with Shad looking like a dumbass for not catching on to JTG tagging the turnbuckles right after him in a Strap match at Extreme Rules 2010. JTG's back was turned to Shad's as the latter was dragging him to the turnbuckles the whole time.

At least the guys in Cryme Tyme teamed for four years, were over, and were always just barely not good enough to get the tag titles for most of that time- so their blowoff PPV match for the breakup was okay, but made sense.
Now, Titus O'Neil vs. Darren Young as the Prime Time Players explode from last year, on the other hand?

Most PPVs have some filler, my family always said for bathroom breaks. Starrcade 1998 had Norman Smiley vs Prince Iaukea.

Tomko vs Steven Richards (In Drag) from Unforgiven 2004...Yeah I know it was part of an angle at the time, but it really could have been paid off on RAW instead of forcing paying customers to sit though that fiasco.

I just assumed they were separated because Darren was hurt.

Man, there are so many WCW PPV matches that fit this topic. I mean, Mike Enos had a PPV match in 1999. Mike Enos. 1999.

Diva Dodgeball at SummerSlam 2004. Now, the concept of a non-wrestling angle where you are trying to get over the contestants I understand, but don't make it a shoot where your actual female talents legitimately lose!

Most PPVs have some filler, my family always said for bathroom breaks. Starrcade 1998 had Norman Smiley vs Prince Iaukea. Most of that show was filler, though. I think the only matches that meant anything were Nash/Goldberg, DDP/Giant(should've been Bret, but I believe he may have been injured), Kidman/Mysterio/Juvi, which was followed by Kidman/Guerrero, Flair/Bischoff, and Konnan/Jericho, which qualifies solely by having been a title match, and immediately loses points for being a TV title match which was Jericho's punishment for pissing Bischoff off. The fact that I don't remember the rest of the card, outside of a Bigelow/Hall match that was promoted on the pre-show, then never happened, should tell you something.

I remember something similar happened the previous month when I saw that Booker T vs. Scott Norton for the IWGP title was announced for World War 3. Even at the time, I was like "Why would that title be defended at a WCW show?"

Well, the IWGP title was defended a few times on WCW programming. They did have a working relationship with New Japan, hence Ultimo Dragon walking around the J-Crown two years prior. But still, Booker and Norton for the title on a PPV would've been incredibly random.

Surely I'm not the first person to mention the Brisco vs Patterson evening gown match.
