Surely I'm not the first person to mention the Brisco vs Patterson evening gown match. Could the same be said about Melina vs. Torrie Wilson, with Candice Michelle as referee, at Great American Bash 2005? That match didn't need to be on PPV at all. Sure, seeing all the women in their underwear was great to look at, but there was no point to it, and it was obvious that even though Melina won the match, she would still get stripped down completely in the end, and let's not forget Candice stripping as well, not that she was well-covered up to begin with. Then again, that show was bad overall, and the only memorable thing that happened was Muhammad Hassan getting powerbombed through the stage.

Diva Dodgeball at SummerSlam 2004. Now, the concept of a non-wrestling angle where you are trying to get over the contestants I understand, but don't make it a shoot where your actual female talents legitimately lose! Completely forgot about that, and that was a really good PPV until you said so.

Man, my youth was FILLED with questionable matches on PPV.
But back then, we didn't commonly get name vs. name matches on TV outside Prime Time or the Superstars/Challenge main events, so it was cool. And looking back, it's more nostalgic to see those "random as heck" matches at Wrestlemanias and Summerslams.
I miss them, honestly. It breaks up the uber-seriousness of a PPV (which is ABUNDANT thesr days) at times when they really need it.

How about matches that made no sense? Why the hell did Marc Mero face Droz at Breakdown 98? Why did Val Venis face Jeff Jarrett at Fully Loaded 98? He was in the midst of a feud with Kaientai, why didn't he face one of them?

Those two were filler matches, but the only thing that went with the angle Val went through as that Yamaguchi-San was on color commentary during that match, but it didn't make sense and maybe it was the work of one mastermind:

The five way main event of NOC 2007: Cena v King Booker v Lashley v Orton v...erm Mick Foley
Random because Foley for some reason was in it and random because it felt so thrown together, since when has WWE done a 5 way match before or since?

I think having Mordecai v Scotty 2 Hotty at Judgment Day 2004 proved that the brand specific PPV concept was doomed.

Foley had another match on his contract and somebody had to eat a pin. It was really that simple.

Joe Gomez vs. Mongo....some WCW PPV Bash of the beach 96 the night the NWO formed. The night that also had the one of the most random matches. Speaking of WCW Sold Out 99 Had these high Quality PPV matches: Chris Benoit vs. Mike Enos (Fresh off the returning Horsemen feuding with the NWO. Now were not going to book him against an NWO member we give him Mike Enos.) Finley vs. Van Hammer (RIGHT) Norman Smiley vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. (Fighting over the fact Norman put a stick horse in a woodchipper. An angle so great WWE did it with Moppy.)

How about GAB 1990? With the exception of Flair/Sting and the Dudes With Attitudes vs Horsemen six man, i dont think any of the matches had an angle attached to it.

Rick Martel vs. Koko at WM6 was a weird one. Martel had turned heel a full year earlier. Koko should have been his first opponent on the first SNME after WM5.
Anything with the Bushwhackers after 1989 was a horrible waste of valuable PPV time. Bushwhackers-Beverly Brothers at Royal Rumble 1992 comes to mind. That feud wasn't even worthy of Superstars.

Wrestlemania VII Tito Santana v The Mountie Did Heenan say that the Mountie was just trying to make sure that Tito didn't try to sneak into Canada? If not, he really should have.

Beverly Brothers were a rather useless jobber tag team at that point, but the Whackers at least served the purpose of getting the crowd hot and into it...they always got nice pops for whatever comic relief antics they were up to

How am I the first one to mention Jenna vs. Sharmell at Victory Road 2009? Nothing about that match was "questionable." They've should've known it was a bad idea the minute somebody suggested it.

Was there any reason for Norman Smiley vs. The Cat at Fall Brawl 1998? What about Jim Neidhart and British Bulldog vs. Alex Wright and Disco Inferno?
