Alexander Rusev Big E Langston Antonio Cesaro
Adrian Neville
Is there any particular reason why WWE likes to take away guys' names? What's the point of this? With some people I get it, like Barret taking a gimmick name over his first name, that's at least a branding tool, but for most of them it just happens randomly and for no reason. I watched Adrian Nevillle, sorry, just Neville debut on Raw yesterday and the first thing I thought when he came out is 'is he such a nobody to WWE that they won't even bother announcing him by his full name?' I mean Adrian Neville isn't a particularly good ring name to begin with, but just Neville is even worse, it makes me think he's some local enhancement guy whose full name was withheld for legal reasons.

Hopefully the fact they said "Adrian Neville" was trending on their beloved twitter and not just Neville means they might revert to his full name next week.

Maybe they thought it works with the Divas, so why not the guys?

I've always found taking away X part of wrestler's name to be the most unnecessary thing in the universe, unless they've got like the coolest last or first name ever. Unfortunately, like 90% of them don't.
Seriously, when there is actually a man on your roster just named Blake, you've got some problems.

Too many syllables. No more than four.

If I remember correctly, the deal with Rusev and Cesaro were that Vince didn't think their first names sounded tough enough, so he said to drop them. I don't remember where I heard that or if that was just idle speculation around here.

I wouldn't care about them shortening Adrian Neville's name if "Neville" actually worked on its own.

Is he aware that a guy called Sheamus has been running around on Raw for about 5 years now? If he were brought up to the main roster in this current period and was still called Sheamus O'Shaunessy, we'd probably be looking at the debut of "The Big White" O.

I am going to make a totally reasonable and completely appropriate comparison: WWE is to branding what the Nazis were to eugenics. They take a concept that has good ideas in principle (whether that being creating of marketing speak that supports the brand and makes it easier to remember or trying to be proactive in eliminating harmful genes from the human genome) and twisting it away from it's original intention, following it much too literally and turning it into a destructive force that harms everything.
Obviously the WWE's offenses pale in comparison but you catch my drift.

I'm really more worried about the possibility of Neville having quick matches every week, with no storyline, or real forward momentum, in front of increasingly quiet crowds.
They should have a good worker attack him when they're in London to set up a feud. I don't know who it could be though.

I wouldn't care about them shortening Adrian Neville's name if "Neville" actually worked on its own. Yeah, I mean for the majority of his wrestling career he only had the one name... but Neville doesn't sound right.

Because we dumb fans can only process names with a certain number of syllables, so we can chant.

Did Sting ever have a full name? Sting Patterson was really underrated.
