I don't think there's much you can do with him as a face. It's going to be hard for him to lose the stink of being Cena 2.0. I really think they should have gave him the Rusev feud. He could've eliminated Rhsev and Rusev could've interfered and caused Roman's elimination. It was clear that Roman was winning the Rumble, but maybe if they'd changed course, and had Roman not win, the crowd's rejection of him wouldn't have been so strong. Rusev and Lana are heat magnets. If anybody on the roster could get Reigns cheered, it was them. But nope, they put Cena with Rusev, the one guy that was sure to get booed over Rusev.

Book him to his strengths. Instead of him having "underdog" matches let him destroy people, not to the level of Lesnar but a few steps below.
Keep him away from Kane/Show. Their matches are usually slow and plodding which is the exact opposite of the type of matches you want for someone who is supposed to be "explosive".
For storyline purposes keep him tied in with Rollins/Authority but have them throw some mid-card guys at him. Some good workers who can make him look good and also allow Reigns to show off his athleticism.
Even in crowds that are brutal to him he is getting some decent pops with some of his moves which shows that people want to like him. Let him develop a true silent bad ass character and let him be that guy, not The Rock 2.0

Id keep him as a face but have him
-Talk less
-Have no interaction with Kane or Big Show ever again and stay out of the title picture for a while
-Be victorious in upper mid-card feuds with the likes of Harper, Sheamus, Rusev and other more compelling heels who can actually go in the ring.
-Still promote him as a big deal, but ease off on the ridiculous hard sell that he is already on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling.
Hopefully keeping him out of the Main Event spotlight for a while would help him learn and grow in a less hostile environment.

1: Mute him
2: Give him face paint and a trench coat and a signature weapon (Police baton? Ninja Stars? A crossbow?)
3: Make him ominous and brooding
4: Take away his first name.

Turn him into Crow Reigns. He stands in the rafters watching RAW and Smackdown every week, not saying a word.

Just be patient, it's only been one show since mania, crowds will come around if he keeps improving.
A feud with HHH would do wonders short term.

Throw a ball into the van.
Put him in a cage. Take him to the doctor.
Three hours later, put the collar of shame on him.
Roman's fixed!

If even Reigns losing the big one at Mania 31 isn't enough to "fix" him- just do the other option to fix Roman Reigns:
1- Call up Sinclair Media.
2- Offer them the chance to book Roman Reigns for a few select dates in Ring of Honor.
3- Let Reigns go there and wrestle a couple shows.
4- Watch as Reigns comes back, and now that he's a Ring of Honor alumni enjoy how all the people who are fed up with Reigns will suddenly cheer him as if he's handing out twenties.

Have him go around Superman Punching more things. Make the Superman Punch actually magical. It fixes things that are broken and it breaks things that are working just fine.

In addition to temporarily pushing Reigns down the card, just so that he isn't under quite so much scrutiny, I'd work on giving him an actual character. They've scaled back a lot of the dumb shit they were trying out with him (MAGIC BEANS) but Reigns still comes off as a cipher for whatever the writers want him to be that week, rather than a legitimate character in his own right.
My idea? He's a big, imposing dude who wears tactical gear. If John Cena is Superman, and CM Punk was Wolverine, why not make Reigns WWE's Punisher?
Have him be a dude who fights for justice, but is really brutal and unforgiving about it, basically like a one-man Shield but on a broader scale. Rusev is beating down some jobber after the bell and trying to cripple him with the Accolade? BAM, Superman Punch. Luke Harper is beating down some other jobber at ringside? BAM, spear through the barricade. Some unfortunate guy way down on the totem pole needs a tag partner? Here comes Reigns. Don't have him do it all the time, of course, but it would be an easy way to set up feuds for him: Reigns stops some injustice from happening, he and the other guy battle for a month or two before moving on, repeat. It's kinda corny admittedly but hell, it's wrestling - if I'm willing to accept a swamp demon cult leader who has a magic lantern and can raise the dead, I can accept Roman Reigns wanting to save Zack Ryder from a beatdown.

Do what NJPW did to Okada, send him to TNA to learn a lesson, a stint in TNA will change a man sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse

I actually dig this, because that would actually give him a reason to get out of the title chase for a bit, into feuds with guys like Harper, Rusev, Cesaro and Kidd, and other guys that can help establish some credibility as a guy who can work at a main event level.

Reigns is a tricky guy to book since he's in that in between size where he's too big to really be a white meat sympathetic babyface yet isn't big enough to be a total brute that dominates in the Lesnar/Goldberg vein. There are really not many guys that can pull that off...maybe late 80s/early 90s Sting, who could be the superhero against guys like Flair but then segue into a white meat babyface against a huge heel like Vader.
Right now though? Get him away from the main event ASAP. He has bombed in that role and you can't force it at this point. I've said he desperately needs a secondary title so going after the US title and Cena might be interesting.

Step 1: drop all the Shield shit. All of it.
Step 2: give him a proper character beside Samoan family member.
Step 3: put him in a proper 1 on 1 feud away from the top title for a while.
Step 4: push him back to the main event in about a year if he's actually ready and has won the fans back. Don't overhype him.

Nothing they will do will change some people's mind. The key is to win over the same people Cena has won over and try to sell the shit out of some merch. I think reaching some Orton fans is also possible.
But he's not going to be popular with a post mania crowd ever. He probably never was going to be as a face. He's not the style of face that crowd likes.

Just plant some stories in the wrestling news media about how WWE don't like him anymore. It worked for Punk and Bryan, right?
