I liked it, though I find it odd that some critics thought that the somewhat more adult tone of show was off putting. It's not like it was a betrayal of Jim Henson's grand vision for the characters because at the beginning of franchise there was a similar kind of edge, hell the first ever Muppet's prime time special was called "Sex and Violence" after all. yes...it's kind of like Ninja Turtles syndrome, that anything that isn't like the 1987 cartoon is betraying the franchise. Never mind it had dark and edgy starts. It's kind of like how everyone expects anything Wizard of Oz to be the lighthearted, just occasionally scary MGM musical. It was off-putting to me, I admit, with the Muppets...but hopefully it'll grow on me as time goes on. And hopefully we see enough of the fan favorite characters (more Swedish Chef please!). It may be harder to do on a sitcom than it was on the variety format.

2.9 with a 10 share. 9.01 millions viewers. Highest rating for ABC in that particular time slot in 2 years.

I almost never watch network shows, but gave this a shot.
Definitely laughed a few times, but can see why it might not work for everybody. Will keep an eye on it, though, lots of shows iron out wrinkles over the course of a full season.

I think as a culture we've gotten way too eager to judge shows (or really anything that you know will be ongoing) on a single episode.
I was fond of it, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt since I'm sure it'll get at least one full season to find its voice.

Which makes Sam The Eagle's scene reading the overly cautious notes of the network's standards and practices department even funnier. "CAN'T SAY HELL"

This is the first time I've made a point to watch something as it aired on network TV in years and years outside of the Oscars.
I'd never thought I'd say Tom Bergeron was the highlight of something, but here we are.
I enjoyed it, but I am very much over the whole faux documentary thing.

The fact that Modern Family didn't continue its streak at the Emmys tells me that it's becoming "just another show." (an enjoyable one at that, but could it be in the twilight of being a phenomenon? Still, going from "phenom" to "still really good" isn't bad by any means...) And The Office is long gone, "so 2000s" even. I will keep watching to see if the sitcom style applied to the Muppets holds up. I worry there's things they won't be able to do in the constraints.

It's like the past is hellbent on enveloping the present and future, and it will NOT be stopped.

It's worth pointing out that the original Muppet Show didn't really get things going until its second season. I loved the first episode but this might be a similar situation.

It only ended this past February. The show being a talk show instead of variety show makes sense since that was very much a 70s thing and there's 10 or so late night talk shows now. I miss though the energy the muppets had before, they used to get really excited. It's too low-key now. The jokes were hit-and-miss like most pilots, I'll keep watching.

I think the show has a lot of potential, but the pilot was hit and miss for me. Definitely look forward to watching the series going forward as I do think they have the pieces to put something really special together
