Everyone seems to agree it's shit or at minimum nowhere near what it has been. So is there anyway to fix this?
Jon Jones moving up could help, but he's just one man. Lesnar could have helped fill out the division, but it's not like he could really hang with the top 5 fighters these days.
So any thoughts? What about young prospects?

Getting some guys that aren't made out of fiberglass would help.

Cain retiring. So long aa he's there, there will always be a gap in the division.

Is it as necessary in UFC, though? MMA's always been a more top-to-bottom sport than most fighting arts. It's not like boxing, where even if there can be some good names in lower classes, but it's really's "as the heavyweights go, so goes the sport"- with MMA, if there's a red-hot star in a lower weight class, they rework it to build around that class as the priority.

Cain retiring. So long aa he's there, there will always be a gap in the division. And a gap of a year or more between title defenses

Cain retiring. So long aa he's there, there will always be a gap in the division. Pretty much. Between his injury issues, and his inability to connect with fans outside of Mexico, he's what's really holding the division back. A cat like Barnett would be perfect, as he's charismatic as all hell, but his time is past. Hell, even Overeem could probably have a division built around him until he started getting KO'd all the time again. But Cain just isn't connecting with people unfortunately, and that's waaaaay more important then alot of MMA fans are willing to admit.

Cain's fought what? 3 people in 5 years?
Division just needs some turn over. Maybe after Werdum wins the title...

It's boring at the top because Cain can't stay healthy and doesn't seem particularly interested in fighting even when he is, but I like a lot of the underneath guys. It'd kind of throwback to the older UFC/local tough guy competitions. Lots of characteristic slow and powerful guys with beards looking to end fights quickly.

While the division needs is in desperate need of new blood the problem is that vast majority of Heavyweight MMA fighters outside of the UFC are terrible.

I hate to bump this threat but honestly I think its total bullshit to blame Cain for the division problems when the division itself has always had a shallow talent pool and has never been what could be considered great. That and its a f*** of a lot better than it was in 2004/2005.
Also I think people in this thread are mistaking not liking him personally with this so called not being able to connect with fans stuff because as of last year he was still one of the UFC top 5 draws. The real problem is that when Brock was champion reached such a insanely massive level of popularity that most likely no one is going to eclipse it.
