Speaking to what I thought this thread as about before I entered it...Has there been any artists (painter, sculpter, etc) that became famous in the past decade+?
I can't remember an artist being on par with an actor/musician, ect. in celebrity since Andy Warhol was still going in the 80's.

Speaking as a rap fan, there are a lot of rappers who definitely had radio exposure for a number of years and then at some point became less relevant, if go into "underground" status. For example, look at Kurupt. After he had his own label for a bit, he actually had some radio exposure from 1998-2001 when he had released "Kuruption," "Tha Streetz is a Mutha" and "Space Boogie: Smoke Oddessey." Although I think his biggest hit out of all of them was "Who Ride Wit Us," which was on "Tha Streetz is a Mutha." Funny thing though, he didn't really have much exposure when he re-signed with Death Row Records, and although I remember buying his album "Against Tha Grain" at Target, I doubt a lot of people were even aware that he had come out with a new album at the time. Some people who followed Tha Dogg Pound must probably follow him and Daz these days, while Snoop, the biggest heavyweight out of all the DPG, is still rather well-known.
Another example is DMX. I think the last time there was any sort of radio exposure was when he did "Grand Champ," which came out before that movie he did called "Never Die Alone." After that, he was never heard from again until 2006 when he did "Year of the Dog...Again," but I don't think that there were many singles for that album, if any. Hell, I didn't know that he did a new album until a few months ago when his latest album was released. Plus, DMX had his share of drug problems over the years.

Britney Spears' career never turned around after her meltdown. And she's probably better off that it didn't. Disagree, she evolved into a Madonna type elder music-statesman. Plus she has a really successful Vegas show. The meltdown if anything jumpstarted a dead career that stagnated with the K-Fed marraige. People wanted her to get better, and rewarded her when it happened. Christina Aguilera however, she never recovered after the one-two punch of Burlesque and Lady Gaga taking over her oddness gimmick. She tried to get up, but fell down during and was waved off after the standing 8-count tko of her botching the national anthem. Christina fell WAY before Burlesque. It was the MTV 3 way kiss that did her in. She had Dirty as a successful track, but after that was never the same...I mean look at her other singles like Candy Man or Keeps Getting Better. Even Moves Like Jagger or Feel This Moment, songs where she isn't the main artist, Shows her weaknesses

It's probably a good idea to remember the difference between "falling off" and "taking a break", especially in music. All it ever takes is one great album and someone who appears to have hit rock bottom is back on top again.

It's also important to consider that many people who had great stardom, were content to let it die down and live more private lives. They might not reach superstardom again, but are content with more personal and creatively fulfilling projects.

How did the MTV incident do her in? Now, I am disappointed in her over Mickeygate and being another DYKWIA? dropper. I like my artists to be decent people, I admit it!

Frank Miller went from being a legend in the comic book industry to the sort of embarrassment you keep locked away in the basement after faking their death. Of course, that wasn't without a lot of hard work on his part (see All Star Batman and Robin, Holy Terror, and the RoboCop 2 comic). I'd also say a lot of his later work ruined his earlier work, because you see a lot of the stupid shit that he get's criticized for in his "Good" stuff. When I watched Turtles Forever and heard the dialogue from the first TMNT issue (written shortly after Miller's original Daredevil run) read out loud I was a bit surprised to realize that a parody of early '80s Frank Miller sounded exactly like current day actual Frank Miller.

Methinks Madonna sucked out her life force (and didn't she have another resurgence about that time? Hmmmmm....)

Britney's kiss got more press because Christina was game and it was no surprise-she actually wanted to kiss Britnet but Britney wouldn't do it. I think the break between her Dirrty period and back to basics, things changed and it's damn hard to come back after a certain age-Mariah's comeback from Glitter still shocks me-and she got f***ed over in that whole ordeal

Also, I think when artists start doing things sometimes like making cameos in films and stuff that you wouldn't see then do at their peak, you get the feeling that they're not above it and while it makes money, it affects their image.
I know Christina did commercials when she first started, but she was new at the time

I don't follow music that closely, but Eve's career seemed to really stall around the mid 2000s. She's another one who was appearing in movies.

From what I saw from everyone else Britney and Madonna kissing was THE moment, and Christina was that kid acting like "I can be naughty too"

Mark Hollis from "Talk Talk" is the greatest example of an artist who finished producing masterpieces, then basically said "OK I'm done. See ya, bye!"
