This is not complaining. I don't mind the odd F bomb being dropped.
Noticed that it has been creeping into movies and franchises where it would usually be muffled or some some shit. Now we are hearing it uncensored in the X-Men movies, the last James Bond film (and by the last person in the cast you expect to say it), and even in the last Transformers movie... A movie based on Kid's toys!
Could this be the reaction to the Die Hard 4 thing when the famous John McClane catchphrase was drowned out by gunfire? Or is just a case of filmmaker's saying "f*** it, the movie is going to make money anyway.. Let's have one of the minions say f***ING HELL in the next Despicable Me movie"? Ok I might have gone a bit overboard with that example.

Its just a word like the user above me said. And society (at least in my area) doesn't frown upon "curse words" anymore. Just racial and derogatory words.

Just racial and derogatory words. Total contradiction. You can't have some words be "just words" and others that are demeaning if both sets are used for emphatic offensive effect. The point is that there is a reason eff words have been taboo the same way that racial terms are also taboo. Do they mean the exact same thing? No! But I HATE it more than anything when people say "my thing is ok because I'm ignorant and don't get it" but "this other thing is bad, so let's not do that, mkay?" If they were "just words," then you've got to have the same stance on ANY word. You can't tell people NOT to be offended by use of the eff word and then in the same breath say that NO ONE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE should use another word. It's just twisted.

Maybe this is just my upbringing, but when is the eff word used as demeaning as a racial word? I know people calling someone a f***er is demeaning so to speak. But how is it as bad as racial terms. I put it at the same level as bitch in terms of demeaning. And that is used openly. But I will agree that if one word is not to be used under any circumstance then no word should be used under that same circumstance. The question is, will we reach that time? I hope so. Until then, you may be right in that we shouldn't use any derogatory terms at all. I just never considered the eff word derogatory at that level. That's just my thought though.

If you really think that swear words are in the same league as racial/derogatory words, that's your problem. It's less a point of "words are just words", and more that people have become in tune to the words that are the real enemy, as opposed to words that we've always been told were "dirty words", but are far more benign in the grand scheme of things. tl;dr: **** that noise.

Post before last one was a very intelligent reply. Just for calm discussion purposes, everyone is forgetting the fact that the words you are referring to are not always meant to be derogatory. What if a word with a bad racial context is used without any derogatory intent whatsoever. Underline intent.
By the way, I'm not saying that to make a case that those racial term should be used. I'm saying it because I'm trying to bring to light the fact that people say some words are just words, but then those same people say "but you're not allowed to use other words "
And just to make a lighthearted remark, I hope none of this interesting discussion ends with someone saying EFF YOU and taking their marbles and going home. Ha.

There was a lot more f***s, boobs, gore, homophobia, sexual innuendos, etc in PG movies from the 80's. This isn't a new thing. Plus if you're allowed one f*** in a PG-13 movie might as well make the most of out of it

I'm from New Jersey. We use "f***" as a filler word when we can't think of anything else that fits in there. Or when it sounds cool.
Maybe it'd be different in other parts of the country where profanities are more looked down upon. But here no one gives a f***.

I have no problem with using or hearing other people use that word. Interesting point, though, about the "words are just words, but some words are not okay". I mean, how is it decided what words count as too offensive/derogatory in the first place anyway?
When it comes to racist language, besides some obvious exceptions, there are some words where people can't come to an agreement over whether it's offensive or not. I remember an interesting debate on YouTube (Yes, YouTube does interesting debates sometimes) over whether the word 'oriental' is offensive.

]No, it is a total contradiction. If words are just words, than slurs can't hurt you. A slur is MUCH more offensive than an F-bomb. But that marginalize the fact some are, indeed, offended by the term. I'm not but I would be if it was said in front of my children. That's the point though- I'm not saying "it's not a contradiction" or "words are just words", but exactly the fact that, a slur is far, far more hurtful than an F-bomb is and people in this era know it. The F-bomb got its power in a time period when people did think it was the worst word possible- but that was also a time when people would say slurs without thinking about it. In this time period, people have flipflopped to know that the "seven words you can't say on television" would look far, far different if it was done today. Yes, people might be offended by an F-bomb, and if you don't want it said in front of your children, that's a fair prerogative- but even then, it's offensive, crude, but an F-bomb won't hurt anyone like a slur will. It's not so much a "words are just words" thing, as much as 'people know that slurs SHOULD be considered curse words and treated as such, and traditional 'curse' words should get more leeway than that.."

As far as Transformers, profanity is nothing new. Spike said shit in the 1986 animated movie.

That's when you know it's lost all meaning, heh.
