Hey, folks. Was just wondering if any of you remember your first reaction upon hearing about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I remember I was walking out of the theater after the first Iron Man, and my friend told me it was going to be the first movie in a series about the Avengers. He told me Thor and Captain America were getting films, and each of their sequels would be the Avengers. I thought it'd be fun, but that was way back in 2008. I had no idea if I would live to see any of these films, or at least have the patience for them.
Now, here we are, in 2015. We've had three Iron Man films, two Captain America and Thor films each, a Hulk film, a Guardians of the Galaxy film, one Avengers film with a second just a couple weeks away (outside of the UK) and even a freaking Shield television series. And on top of that, we've got Ant-Man in a couple months with 10 more films planned for the next five or so years. It all happened really fast, and I'm loving it.
I also laughed when DC announced a Justice League film around the time the Avengers came out. DC swore they were not playing catch up, and fans were calling bullshit.
Thoughts?

I was excited and hopeful. I was pleasantly surprised with Thor and Captain America and thought The Incredible Hulk was pretty good too.

I remember not having high expectations for original Iron Man movie. The character was never one of my favorites, so I was blown away with how good it turned out to be. Having read the Ultimates though, I marked the **** out during the post-credits scene. w I liked First Avengers well enough (it had it's flaws, but I'm a sucker for "Pulp Adventure") and I thought Thor was solid. Avengers was probably the first time in a while that I went into a movie hyped and came out with no complaints.

I barely even knew that they were doing a cinematic universe when Iron Man I came out, until everyone started talking about the post-credit scene with Samuel L. Jackson talking about the Avengers Initiative.

When Iron Man came out, we were in that weird era where crap superhero movies were still fresh on our mind but they were starting to get better. The first two X-men were good, Batman Begins had come out and (I believe) Dark Knight, too. But, those were the exceptions. That said, I still went to see Iron Man on a random Saturday afternoon and remember that being the highlight of my month. I had been told to stay for the postcredit scene. I was pretty shocked. Iron Man was released a couple of months before The Dark Knight, both in 2008.

Loved the Sam Jackson scene from Iron Man, but there was a definite "Will This Actually Happen Feeling???" coming out of it. I went opening night to Iron Man, and despite the already announced plan to make it all work I was really skeptical. It was Captain America before I accepted "Holy F***, they are actually gonna make this work!!"

When I first heard about the MCU, I thought "Wow, I know Mariah Carey has a big ego, but a university...".

I remember when Ironman was about to come out thinking there is no way this works, it had been a while since Marvel had a decent movie put out but here we are and I couldn't be happier at being so wrong

Iron Man was released a couple of months before The Dark Knight, both in 2008. Fair enough. But we were still in the era I described and it was pretty hyped after Batman Begins Absolutely. X-Men and Spider-Man, which had come in with a lot of momentum in the early 2000s were slipping with bad third movies (and standalone Wolverine movie). The Fantastic Four movie and Daredevil were bad. Batman Begins came in like a breath of fresh air, taking a different approach. Iron Man and Marvel Studios were unknown commodities in 2008. I didn't expect Iron Man to be bad; I just didn't think much about it until it was released and got a lot of buzz. I'd guess a lot of others had a similar reaction.

I was excited but it's not the same anymore. Iron Man 1 was good but not something I feel like watching back again. Iron Man 2 was boring to me. Iron Man 3 was freaking garbage to me. The first Thor movie isn't really memorable. Thor 2 was good but not memorable either.
Captain America 1 was good but slow and Winter Soldier was awesome (It's probably the best MCU movie in the franchise) Avengers was fun. GoTG was an awesome movie probably rank it the second best movie in the MCU with Avengers thrid. The Hulk movies were meh to me. I'm not interested in any of the shows on ABC at all. I only care of Daredevil really.
The only movies I watched in theaters were Captain America 1 and 2, GoTG, Iron Man 3 (which I regret) and Avengers. I'm definitely watching Age Of Ultron but I think it's time to beef up the universe with new people and I know they are doing it but I wish it were sooner.
It's just I didn't grow up with these characters. I grew up with X-Men, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Daredevil, Black Panther, and ALL of DC's heroes/villains. So all the main cast used for the Avengers don't have me emotional invested like the ones I listed above except for Hulk.
I wish the team and effort from Marvel/Disney was somehow transfered over to DC. I want DC to do do better than Marvel but half the casting freaking sucks to me (for the DCCU).

I went into Iron Man completely blind to both what the character was and whatever plans Marvel had. I knew Disney owned Marvel and all that, but that was it.

Disney didn't buy Marvel until 2009. Or, it was at least after Iron Man was released. I know this because I remember the job I worked at when it came out. And am I the only one who liked Daredevil? The Director's Cut is a whole new movie, practically. I believe The Incredible Hulk was Universal and Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger were all Paramount. I believe Universal still owns The Incredible Hulk, but Disney now owns the Iron Man movies and the first Thor and Captain America.

I went into Iron Man completely blind to both what the character was and whatever plans Marvel had. I knew Disney owned Marvel and all that, but that was it. Disney hadn't acquired Marvel yet, that would come later. Most of Phase 1 came out before Disney got involved starting with Avengers. I think a lot of Iron Man, and subsequently the MCU's success can be traced back to one thing. The same movie with all the same talent might not have got the casuals in like it did had it not been for this: That trailer absolutely made Iron Man.

My first reaction was that it made a lot of sense. Star Trek's TNG-era shows had successfully built a massive interconnecting universe where there would occasionally be some crossover between shows and movies, and comics have been doing it for decades. The natural progression would be to bring it off the page and onto the screen.

Iron Man was my favorite superhero growing up. I was just excited to see him get a movie. Maybe a little too excited, as it didn't meet my lofty as f*** expectations. I liked it, but I wanted to love it. I was pumped as hell by that post-credits scene, though.

I was very much "good luck to them" when I heard of their plans, and Iron Man I and Incredible Hulk both helped me get through a personal funk in an otherwise solid 2008, Since then, I've found Most Marvel movies to be overrated and nothing but quirk engines with paper thin plots. Most don't even hold up on repeat viewings. Best things so far of the current phase has been Daredevil, SHIELD and Cap II.

I didn't think much of it because I wasn't a big comic book fan at that time so I didn't understand the scope of what they were going to do. I knew of most of the superheroes that were getting their own movies, but it was moreso because of Marvel vs. Capcom. Looking back, it's really awesome to see the groundwork they put in and have it pay off the way it did and continues to do.

The Director's Cut is a whole new movie, practically. DD DC may be my favorite comic film. The show is now dulling its glow for me though. I had faith pretty much when I heard who was directing Iron Man, Thor and Cap. My only issues with the Marvel movies is most are so exactly what I expect that they aren't that exciting. I watch them like "yep, that is right". It wasn't like when I saw Blade and geeked the hell out because I didn't know what this character I liked was going to be when he was a live human. X-men got me excited a bit, and X2 hyped me so hard, thanks to Nightcrawler being incredible. After those my expectations were getting stronger.

It didn't really hit me it was going to be a big shared universe until The Avengers came out. Like it was weird. Everything happened so fast and it was ambitious as f*** like I couldn't really believe it was going to happen and work.
