I'll be honest with you guys. Even if I had empirical evidence pointing to TNA being bigger than ECW ever was, I would never concede it to them. As awful of a wrestling company TNA is, the level of hate for them can sometimes get outright absurd. TNA manages to keep going. They've had national television and actual living operations longer than ECW did. But ECW was part of a different era with a different mindset in wrestling. If this were 2006, people would have much different hot taeks on TNA. If this were 2006, we'd be making constant threads asking how the hell did they waste Joe's undefeated streak on a barely built up match with Kurt Angle.

ECW is that musician who puts out two really great albums and then ODs in a bathroom stall with a heavily romanticized legacy before a public fall from grace. TNA is the mediocre-but-ever-present act that never really set the world on fire but always seemed around to the surprise of everyone involved, and whose minor bid at fame has fizzled so hard they're in a horrible purgatory of performing on cruise ships.

ECW's like Velvet Underground or something where most of the conversation about them is about what they changed, or people trying to cling onto what they could have been maybe, etc, but they sure didn't make a lot of money during that original run.

I was gonna go with a Fugees reference, myself, but I think Velvet Underground is the more apt comparison.

TNA was the first company in the post WCW/ECW era that gave wrestlers hope that it's not the end of the world if you don't make it to WWE or bust in WWE.

Sure they're bigger, but when and I mean when it dies, it'll be a big joke. TNA will not be remembered fondly and I give it 5 more years before it finally dies. Pretty Mich my sentiments as well.

Sure TNA is bigger because ECW was at best a large regional promotion that always had to make due with what little talent and money it had. It didn't have a network that actually gave them chance after chance and it sure as hell didn't have the backing of some clueless money mark with insanely rich parents who could waste their money on it like Dixie Carter.
But like just about everyone else in thread has said when TNA finally goes kaput there won't be reunion shows 10 years later.

This just makes me think...can you imagine what ECW would be like if Bob Carter had this kind of money in '99 and took a shine to Paul Heyman? It boggles the mind.

ECW was essentially a glorified indie fed
TNA is essentially a shitty mainstream fed

Ted James Perkins is a dick rider Don't get my hopes up. My hopes are already up. In fact they're always up. TJ needs to stop talking and just be cute and clean my house in his underwear. This also applies to WWE's resident TJ.

ECW was essentially a glorified indie fed TNA is essentially a shitty mainstream fed I dunno. Right on the first thing (though it was an indy fed that got things like video games, which you're not seeing ROH doing any time soon), but for TNA... They were mainstreamish on Spike, but on Destination America, they're probably less viewed on a weekly basis than something like ROH is and certainly TNA has less influence and is a lot less active.

Well, duh.
ECW, by all accounts, was barely accessible by anyone who didn't extensively hunt for it until it got on PPV and had a television presence most indie Feds right now have much better.
TNA has much more of a presence, nationally and internationally, but destroyed its own momentum to the point where people either laugh or shake their head when people talk about them.

ECW has the edge in attendance, cultural significance and ppv buyrate numbers. While Tna was much more successful when it came to weekly TV as well as longevity. It all just depends on which of these things you value more.

it's pretty easy to be bigger than a company that went under 15 years ago. that's like saying my mom and pop video store is bigger than Blockbuster.

ECW is Layne Staley. Unique, influential, but ultimately troubled and self-destructive.
TNA is Nickelback. Been around for ages, but no one really gives a shit.
