NOOOOO I am going to miss that gigantic teddy bear of death! I loved his ROH run... I gotta go back and watch his run. By that time, I completely fell off of ROH but I remember one Video Wire that showed highlights of Morishima vs. Aries and it looked like a good match.

That's too bad, always liked his work and the way he reinvented himself in the past three years made him literally unrecognizable the first time I saw him. So many guys I still wanted to see him get in there with, but I'm happy at least knowing he's retiring with his health in mind. Did he ever have a match against Steen? ...and people who hate fat guy wrestlers who look like fat girls rejoice everywhere. Which he hasn't been for years. Tasteless post, though.

I know it's more about the health of the man, but NOAH just took another loss. They just can't take a break.
Morishima had some awesome matches during his tenure in ROH. Damn shame he didn't make a handful of more appearances.

Loved his program with Danielson, hell he also changed the course of history, Bryan was supposed to be nwa champion during that time before Morishima injured his retina, the landscape would've been a lot diferent.
He was also a good credible monster. I think he had a wwe tryout, and JR said that it went good, wonder if they were close to signing him.

I enjoyed his matches in ROH, which honestly are all I saw from him. Pretty much how I feel. Saw very little of his NOAH stuff, but really enjoyed his ROH run. The AmDrag feud was brilliant Shame he has to end his career this way, but could be much worse.

Funny story. Back in 2006-07 I would get the NOAH Budokon shows as soon as they went out, within hours of them happening. Back then, if you were into Puro, the NOAH Budokon shows were the hot monthly get as they were by far the best quality matches. In January 2007, the main event was Misawa vs Morishima for the GHC Heavyweight Title. Misawa got concussed early in the match and it became an elbow-fest for 20 minutes until Misawa retained. Wasn't the best match and Morishima looked timid, which I noted. I posted a review on the ROHbot board and then Gabe shot me a PM asking for a link to the match. Later that week, Morishima's initial run in ROH was announced. So I like to think Gabe panicked when he saw that and needed to see it before booking his next World Champion.

He was also a good credible monster. I think he had a wwe tryout, and JR said that it went good, wonder if they were close to signing him. He did have a tryout and Tony Atlas was his manager. But this was around the time WWE was still stuck-up about signing indy/international talent that had already wrestled one style. If that happened in the last 2-3 years, they probably would have signed him. And Go Shiozaki was the "too asina" rumor guy, a rumor that started on these forums as a joke and was used on the clickbait sites and even mentioned on one of the pay sites, probably because some source heard it not knowing it was a joke and repeated it. That was funny.

I hold his matches with Bryan in my favorite matches of all time list (I actually do need to type that up one of these days, would be better than always trying to remember matches. It's like when people ask you your favorite movies, only for you to forget all the movies you love). Especially his Fight Without Honor match with Bryan.
I always use that as an example as to why a Brock/Bryan feud should happen. Its pro wrestling, within that ring anyone can take on anyone if booked right, which the Bryan/Morishima match was. Yes two different kinds of big men comparing Brock and Morishima, but its the same principle of Bryan working with them. Suspension of disbelief
But yeah back to my point his ROH run and specifically his matches with Bryan, Aries, Cesaro, Albright (and the triple threat Morishima vs Cesaro vs Albright) were spectacular
