This is something I always wondered about? Or is it looked down upon a lot?
I know you definitely can't do vice versa. Because the ropes in most boxing rings are very different than the ones used for pro wrestling rings. Since the ropes are used much more in wrestling this would limit matches something fierce.

That's just in an emergency though. I'm talking about standard use.

Does Boxing use cables or actual ropes?

and at times in the past they would be used regularly Dude I'm talking about today not in the past lol! I figured the reason they mentioned it was a regular thing in the past is because how much less the ropes were used back then. Thus it wouldn't make as big a difference. If you watch some old wrestling clips a lot of the times the ropes look a lot different. In particular offhand the AWA stands out. Their ropes were sometimes super lose. If you put a team like the Young Bucks in a ring like that it would put a big limitation on their move set. Does Boxing use cables or actual ropes? The boxing rings I've been in use what feels like electrical tape. I have no idea if that's the norm though. The reason I think a wrestling ring couldn't be used for boxing is because how often fights go into the ropes and how much less give boxing ropes have to wrestling ropes. I'm only judging by those I've been around though. There is also the aforementioned difference of three ropes vs. ropes, but that seems like an easy enough fix if a promoter was in a jam or needed to alternate.

I wouldn't want to box in a wrestling ring long term. Wrestling ring's have a lot of give and it'd really screw with your knees and your balance to box in one.

What about size? Are wrestling and boxing rings the same?

Edge told a story on Talk Is Jericho where he talked about breaking into the business with Ron Hutchinson's wrestling school. The ring he trained in was a boxing ring since it was also a boxing gym as well.

I think the Civic Center here has their own ring, the only difference is taking away the padding for the boxing. The boxers use the three-ropes when they fight. I think they have their own MMA cage set-up as well. I should really inquire about stuff like this.

Sure, you can use a wrestling ring for boxing, but it don't mean it's to be done! You can drive a car with your feet if you want to - don't mean it's a good f***ing idea!
