Man, for your own health you have got to let that anger go. It was only partially incorrect (basically, the number of balls that were 2 psi low is what was off. It's not like none of them were that low) and it is not as though Deflategate was not already becoming the big sports news issue at the time. It would have still been investigated. Brady would have still gotten suspended. That tweet did nothing except upset you. It set nothing in motion that was not already in motion. This is insane to me. "Hey, the greatest quarterback in NFL history is having his reputation torn to bits over a half-assed report that was initiated by a factually-inaccurate bit of league-sourced information. LET IT GO!" You're speaking in revisionist history. This whole issue was quietly fading away when Chris Mortensen's Tweet was posted and it suddenly blew up into a national ordeal. Remember, the news broke on Sunday night/Monday morning. Mortensen's Tweet came on Wednesday night. In the period of time between, no press conferences had to be held, no damage control was necessary, no nightly news broadcasts led with the story. It was a nothing issue and was sure to fade away and result in maybe the Patriots losing a mid-round draft pick and a minor fine, similar to what happened to the Falcons for pumping in crowd noise at the Georgia Dome. But then Mortensen's Tweet hit, implicating that the Patriots had cheated in the worst possible way and the franchise suddenly had to play damage control and the NFL had to order an investigation, dock the team draft picks, and suspend the quarterback to sate the lynch mob from the other 31 fanbases. How did that have any basis in reality? "11 of the 12 balls were two pounds under" is a world's worth of difference from "1 of 12 were two pounds under". If Mortensen Tweeted one of 12 were 2 PSI under, this continues to be a nothing issue. How is the grading scale for accurate reporting at rock bottom like that? Kind-of, sort-of, but not really right can't ever be good enough.

Like I said, Goodell is like Eric Bischoff; he believes that controversy creates cash. Brady, meanwhile, became both Flair (when he was getting sued by Bischoff) and conspiracy victim-era Jericho. As for them being compared to political figures (I apologize for breaking the no-politics rule): - Brady: Bill Clinton
- "The Deflator": Monica Lewinsky
- Ted Wells: Ken Starr
- Brady's agent: Hillary Clinton
- ESPN: The right-wing media

You want to know why I said it was partially correct? Let's explore the facts and his claim:
Claim: 11 of the 12 balls were under Fact: 11 of the 12 balls were under
Claim: balls were under by 2 psi Fact: one ball was, and most others were under by enough that they appeared to be tampered with (also, bear in mind that I think that the one Patriots game ball that did not fail inspection by both officials was not actually inspected at all since it had been a ball set aside for a player that caught it for a TD).
So yes, the scale of the claims were off, but it is not the absolute fabrication you act like it was. I am sure that either the source or Mortensen heard 11 of 12 failed and readings were as low as 2 psi under and misunderstood the scope of the findings.
For that matter, I still cannot believe that anyone can possibly claim that there is no evidence that no efforts to break the rules exists. It exists plenty. The two equipment guys were clearly making efforts to break the rules. It strains credulity to believe that Brady knew nothing or that the equipment guys would take such efforts to mess with the game balls without Brady's permission. Now, if you want to say that no evidence exists to point any fingers at Kraft or Belichick, I completely agree.

A lot of people are too pigheaded about their opinions and will probably continue to cry foul even after everything is done. While I have been one of those pig-headed guys, I'm done with it. I still think Brady should not be suspended as many games as men like Greg Hardy (we are talking about this season's optics, not last year so stop with that. Plus Greg Hardy gets to play in the game against the Patriots right now while Brady doesn't.....seems rather wrong.) and should not be suspended more than LeVeon Bell who is getting two games for his drugs. However, at this point in the game, whatever happens...happens and I will move on. I have a whole season of my Carolina Panthers to prepare for and I don't need this nonsense in the back of my mind.
On the Chris Mortensen disappearing from a scheduled interview to discuss his mistakes in his initial report. No matter how small or large the mistakes were, to cut out of an interview you and your people agreed to because you can't deal with the questions, you lose all credibility in my book. You make a mistake in your legit reporting, you have to own up to it and not try to sweep it under the rug. Any story Chris Mortensen has from here on out, will not be legit to me until another source has the same story.

The Redskins plan to give Robert Griffin III more preseason snaps than usual in an effort to get him more comfortable in the offense.

Now, if you want to say that no evidence exists to point any fingers at Kraft or Belichick, I completely agree. Here's the thing, I like most people (even in New England) believe rules were broken. But this was, as Kraft put it, a minor equipment violation. Hell, the NFL put down, as a minimum, a $25,000 fine for this rule. That's how little they cared about it. So how do we go from a $25,000 fine to a million, loss of draft picks, and a four game suspension? That's like giving a baseball player a 50 suspension for having too much pine tar on his bat. As BRV said this could have been handled quietly, with Brady & The Patriots paying a fine and loss of a draft pick. But Mortensen's Tweet made it sound much worse and all hell broke loose. And despite having the correct numbers, the NFL never corrected Mortensen and to this day Mortensen hasn't retracted the tweet. They just let it sit out there for months. Chances are someone in the NFL offices gave Mortensen false information in order to make The Patriots look bad and to push the story. The resulting media circus put Goodell in the spotlight and after the Ray Rice debacle he was forced to come down with a ridiculous punishment so he didn't look soft. So the reason the Mortensen Tweet is a story is because it led to Brady & The Patriots receiving a hasher punishment than they should have.

Brady pretty clearly cheated. The degree that that matters is certainly up for discussion, but it's beyond apparent that he knew something was up.

So the reason the Mortensen Tweet is a story is because it led to Brady & The Patriots receiving a hasher punishment than they should have. Yes, it was a minor rule violation made at a terrible time, but in this case the cover-up and Spygate play a role in the punishment. Did the Patriots get hit too hard? Some say no, but I think so. Granted, Kraft is worth billions so the fine means little in the long run (especially since it does not affect the cap). The draft picks are a different story, mind you. Even taking past violations into account I don't think more than one pick should have been taken from them (and I would have not taken a 1st rounder either). Still, while you might say it could have been handled differently by the NFL, I would say it could have been handled differently by the Patriots as well. Now, the real issue is that no one ever thought to set up any standards for punishment for deliberate ball alteration involving a player. I would have been surprised if it had occurred to anyone to do so. It seems absurd that one would need to set a punishment. Expect this to be addressed in the next CBA, but for now Goodell gets to set the standard according to the current CBA.

That loud noise you all heard was the entire city of Cleveland groaning at the same time upon hearing this news. If nothing else, there has to be some accountability regarding your GM or your team is destined to such forever.

Broncos WR Kyle Williams suffered a torn Achilles in training camp. Third season ending injury and we're only a day into training camp. Jeff Heuerman, TE (R) popped his ACL day one of rookie mini camp. Ryan Clady, OT, popped his first day of OTAs. (probably ending his Broncos career) Kyle Williams who was looking to be our return guy is gone. Luckily none are a major blow at this point but this still sucks.
