Putting a mask on him would encourage even more Albert chants as the crowd would want to let the wwe know they know...

So he wanted Lord Tensai to be the result of Abyss doing the fusion dance with Big Daddy V. I have no idea how to feel. I am neither Abyss nor Big Daddy V. I am Byscera, the one who will destroy you!

I'll never forget when Johnny Lauranitis revealed Tensai as Cena's opponent for a night of Raw when the Tensai gimmick was really wearing thin, and the audience just let out this massive, collective groan. It was the funniest damn thing and I'd YouTube search it I'd I had the time/energy.

I didn't realize that Albert was NXT Head Trainer. Good to see him stay with the company even though the Tensai character was a complete bomb.

Why not have him just be a monster without a major character, with Jim Mitchell as the manager.
Like, WWE wants to "create" characters instead of presenting them. He could have been a fine monster heel without a dumb gimmick.
It's the same with Adam Rose. He needs to figure out a new "character" because Leo Kruger wasn't getting over. Well you know what got him over? A documentary piece made by ESPN talking about the real man. Not some South African Royal. Not some bounty hunter. Not some party animal. The real man, and the same thing could have happened with Tensai.

Putting a mask on him would encourage even more Albert chants as the crowd would want to let the wwe know they know... Not necessarily. People didn't chant "Isaac Yankem" at Kane, or "Jamaal" at Umaga, or "Husky Harris" at Bray Wyatt. Its really all about the gimmick and making it work. I'm inclined to agree with the author, and I even though at the time that Tensai should have been wearing a mask or face paint; the instant he was recognized, all the audience could think of was his numerous flopped gimmicks of the past and then "Shave your back chants." And yeah, those red trunks really didn't flatter him at all. And the idea of giving him a manager, be it James Mitchell or whoever, is also golden. It really needed to be a total reboot with no reference made to his past work and with the minimal possible details that would have let the audience recognize him right away.

The idea they went with wasn't even bad they just went over the top with it. If they just said A-train spent some time in Japan and he's an animal now, would have been fine. To literally try and turn him Japanese was crazy. All of the ideas are bad. Albert is and always was and always will be awful. The whole thing is an endeavor comparable to drunk driving. Wrong. Albert was coming off an amazing run as Giant Bernard. Anyone who watches that and doesn't see how different his WWE run is needs a better service dog.

The fact that they really didn't do all that much to hide that it was Albert, and even referenced it (however loosely) during his debut didn't help

What a f***ing terrible idea. Yes Tensai was a terrible idea and it flopped horribly.

I remember watching his debut. I texted my friend and said "One Albert chant and this character is dead".

What killed my interest in Tensai wasn't the gimmick but the fact they decided to have him be slow and "methodical" AKA boring.
Once he became a jobber and started actually wrestling at a faster pace and using actual moves he became more fun to watch.

The style wasn't that different. Hosses just tend to get over much better in Japan because they're not only wrestling smaller guys, but they're wrestling in front of fans who are generally must smaller. The American big guys are even larger than life.

He should've came in as Fatter Albert, where hes proud of his weight and chubbyness. His move could've been the blubber bomb, and he feuds with Ryback in a fried chicken on a pole match.
