Well that's what he's calling it... The new craze of spiritual successors to games that big companies don't want to make get's another contender. This time it's from Koji Igarashi Scenario creator for Symphony of the Night, and producer for just about every DS Castlevania... with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. and well from the screenshots well it looks like a 2.5 Castlevania... which should be expected since he's calling it a Igavania... This kickstarter also answers an important question as well... WHAT IS A BACKER? A wonderful pile of sweetness! So if you liked the Metroid-vania games check this out... it's not like Konami's doing anything decent with the franchise. www.kickstarter.com/projects/iga/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night

I hit the "Pledge" button as soon as I saw it. So happy that it already got funded and cleared a stretch goal.

I've never been a big fan of the "Metroidvania" style games.
That said, anybody doing anything to keep CastleVania viable is a-ok in my book, especially given the direction Konami is trending in.

Wow this shot up... it's almost at 1 million dollars already. I am taking responsibility for that! This means that Solid Snake is providing the voice for the main bad guy

You'd think all these spiritual successor sequels getting backed on Kickstarter so fast would light a fire under developers asses. The money is clearly there to be made.

You'd think, but the reason Koji Igarashi left Konami in the first place was because they booted him off Castlevania (in favor of vague involvement of Hideo Kojima along with outsourcing to a C-tier Western developer in Mercurysteam). And what project did they move one of their most known directors/producers? A new AAA title? A fun portable game with retro chic aesthetic and gameplay? Nope. Mindless Facebook games. Can't wait to see the next stretch goals waiting to be unlocked now that $1million and cheat codes are in. I also like the concept of the "social achievements" to unlock even more bonus stuff. Let's people get in on the fun even if they can't afford to contribute past a certain amount.

Over a million dollars given to a game, out of which at least $5,000 was donated by one person. I've never seen anything like this for a Kickstarter-funded game.

Does Konami hate making money or something?

I have no idea if Konami is hopelessly incompetent or the powers that be want to make the company suck enough just to get someone competent to buy it and its IP's.

Iga also sayed that he had money from other sources lined up if he could prove to them that there was public interest... I think he's getting that money <_< >_> edit: Also as of right now all of their Stretch Goals have been met. Also I'm sure some of the achievements they setup but haven't updated yet Double edit: They updated the Achievements thing 11 have been met and more stretch goals have been shown.

The 2.25 million dollar achievement has been revealed it's "8-bit level" Another achievement was unlocked as well so 3 more until the next special unlock where all the Stretch goals get released. Also information on teh first Comics challenge for the achievements thing... edit: Also for fun I checked the kicktraq site of this and looked at the trending it's currently trending towards 15 million dollars... that is if it continues to make money at this rate... which it won't... since it's actually down from an initial projection of 35 million dollars

UPDATE! they are now at 2 million dollars *Dramatic chord* and 400% their funding total. Boss Rush mode engaged! Probably a full update later today on this Edit: and I was right... Update 3! New Stretch Goal - Classic Mode Basically like the Original Castlevania it will be more about timing and pattern recognition then RPG style elements, or as they said it. That is the LAST Stretch Goal as part of the Castle... (Following completion of Classic mode they will open up the Dungeon! Where they put "very big stretch goals—ones we only dreamed of including" They didn't expect it to get anywhere near this far yet... and the next achievement award is basically rendered pointless so they're ditching it and giving +5 to achievement pots so 2 more are needed before the 100+ kickstarters get a button They have reached 25,000 Backers. There will be a second update later today for their first A/V Friday update.
