Now that TNA is near death, seeing threads about characters like Black Machismo and The Pope just makes me mad.
All these white-hot acts that should have been something special and just got wasted for no good reason. Above everything else, that's why TNA is gonna die. They couldn't build for the future or even use the tools they had in the present properly.

Tenay and West did have a great moment on commentary when he pinned Angle. They echoed what many in attendance and watching were thinking when he did it. I do hate how much of the match they go on about "inexperience" and "the kid". You'd think they had framed pictures of Kurt Angle on their commentary desk, surrounded by hearts. Then again, that's always been TNA's issue, they're often even more Angle-centric than WWF was Austin-centric. "You can only beat Angle if someone emptied a machine gun clip into him, and his body rolled onto a land mine!" would have fit right into that commentary. "Total Nonstop Angle" has done nothing but serve to highlight his deterioration, to chronicle his sad descent into madness.

With TNA taking a hit maybe this can mean the return of ALL WHEELS WRESTLING featuring the Team Octane captain!

Lethal (especially his feud with Flair) was one of the few things that would actually get me to make sure I tuned in to TNA. I even showed clips to non-fans/casuals...think about that. He was so good I'd let people know I watched TNA!

"Snake Roberts ruined my wedding!" is one of my favorite wrestling quotes of the century. This is absolutely truth.

I also will never forgive TNA for never giving us Machismo King Jay Lethal.

Cool. I never caught that. I was more wanting Machismo to beef with Hogan as Savage though.

I liked Black Machismo. Nash was part of getting that over. He was hanging out with the X-div guys back then and they had an American Idol segment. Lethal did macho man and the next week or maybe two weeks later Nash unveiled the remixed Pomp and Circumstance theme. Jay took the hand off and ran ten yards with it.

Yeah, apparently Macho Man did love the gimmick, and Lethal did a good job with it. One issue with the gimmick is guys could get stuck into the role of a comedy character, but I actually felt that they did a decent job after the gimmick itself ran its course (besides the "wrestling legends" deal they did). I felt it was an example of a comedy gimmick that could be transitioned out of and Jay Lethal I feel is one of those people who could have been a top guy in TNA and an established "TNA" specific star.

It was fun, but it quickly went nowhere. Why they didn't have at least one segment where he confronted Hogan is beyond me. I believe they did have a few segments backstage together, when Hogan first entered TNA.

I would have had no problem with Black Machismo being a full time gimmick for Lethal, in much the same way that Ric Flair was essentially an updated Buddy Rogers it could have worked as more than comedy.

Dude referenced Kong as Kamala.
I could never dislike the gimmick after that.
