Flop? Very unlikely. The MCU movies are marking serious bank right now, so I'm not feeling it ending now. If it didn't bust with the doubts over GOTG, why would it over Ant-Man?
Now, we do have a marker for the low bar - 165-170 million domestically set by TIH. Any Marvel that goes over the bar is a modest success. The first to go below is going to be considered the bubble buster. And I don't believe Ant-Man will go that low, given the buzz off the trailer and that Ant-Man will be in Cap 3. Just my perception right now. Wait and see next year, I guess.

I think Ant-Man is going to surprise a lot of people. Just because of it had a troubled production doesn't mean it'll flop. Something tells me that it's going to be a pretty big success.

I figured Guardians of the Galaxy was going to flop BAD. I mean, of all the characters, I'd only really knew anything about were Gamora and Drax from their days on the Infinity Watch. To me, Groot and Rocket Raccoon were goofy internet memes ala Deadpool, and Star Lord was a complete unknown. Much to my surprise, the movie was fantastic and I chastised myself for judging before giving the movie and all the characters a chance. I know way more about Ant Man, so I won't lie and say I'm optimistic, but at the end of the day I'll just give the movie a chance and whatever happens, happens.

Are you really latching onto something so old as a definitive version? What are you, an Editor for DC? Well he actually died and had a good role/point in the marvel universe. Carol Danvers hasn't done anything of note in my book to deserve the Captain Marvel name yet, she's more like Monica Rambeau in relevance to me. |

Mar-Vell's death is one of the most iconic issues in comics. I don't think there's a abig issue with thinking of him as the iconic version, especially when Danvers is still new with the title.

I dislike that she has the title while Mar-Vell's own kids are stuck with crappy names. Hulkling is an awful name.

Nope, I reckon Dr. Strange will be the big Marvel flop.
He's just a very boring character. He's ok as a guy people go too for magical advice for a few panels but whenever he has a major role in a comic, in usually sucks the life out of it.

Based on the Edgar Wright fiasco if the movie gets a majority of positive reviews I think Marvel will be thrilled. But I also think that Marvel has always done a great job casting their leads. People talk about GOTG being a surprise hit, while a great movie, would it have been as successful if Chris Pratt wasn't Peter Quill or if Marvel had casted Adam Sandler or David Tennant as Rocket rather than Bradley Cooper (though Tennant may have been awesome).
I don't know if you'll be seeing a second Ant-Man movie but I think Rudd will be good enough to earn roles in other Marvel movies.
As for first Marvel flop... I think the biggest one right now will be Inhumans but even that is still too far out. I think Panther and Strange both have a lot of potential and the choices for the lead were both great for the characters. Captain Marvel will depend on who is cast as Carol.

Eventually, the superhero bubble will burst. After Guardians of the Galaxy, I've given up on trying to predict when that will be. I've been saying for awhile that it's gotta be Avengers 3. Part one or two. Not wishing it obviously but that's how when I feel it's gonna burst and with the amount of money being tossed into even the smaller projects (How much did Ant-man cost? Curious) it's gonna be ugly. Obviously it could happen sooner if the upcoming movies are varying degrees of grade-A Ass. |

The real question becomes what will Marvel do after Infinity War? If anything it's storyline paints a scenario of the battle taking place within the cosmics as the endgame. Thanos, for all intents and purposes, would be considered the big bad within this epic scope. So where does the story go after Infinity War?
Possibly just focus on Defenders and Heroes For Hire?
