Bret and Luger both fail to win the Rumble match, yes, fail, neither were last man standing and because of that Yoko has to wrestle two matches on the same night? Make those two idiots fight! Winner can face Yoko immediately afterwards and the loser can face Fatu since he was 3rd place in the Rumble.
This is bullshit, people.

Considering how jim Cornette had been screwing over Yoko's opponents (especially Luger with his one title shot only BS at Summerslam), I'd say making him fight twice in one night I only fair.

Yeah, but whichever of Bret or Lex didn't face Yokozuna first had to face "suitable competition" in the opening match.
Now let's think, people. How much more would WrestleMania have sucked if Luger/Crush was the opening match, Yoko beat Bret, then went on to lose to Luger? Along with Macho and Owen facing off, possibly, since they'd have been without opponents...

Yoko was the original conspiracy victim.

When Tunney made the announcement, he said that all parties, including Yokozuna, had agreed to that "unique format". So I blame Jim Cornette.

When you just had a dozen guys interfere on your behalf in your most recent title defense, you don't have much of an argument on the fairness front.

The whole thing was really unnecessary. The smart thing to do would be to have Hart face Luger, but the WWE wanted to have Owen vs. Bret AND still have Hitman win the title on the same night. Yeah, it's nice that we got Bret vs. Owen, but even back then as a kid it made no sense to me.

There are a couple of things here that could have been done, such as holding off on Bret vs Owen and saving it for later in the year. Just begin planting the seeds before Wrestlemania.
I would have done Bret vs Luger with the winner facing Yokozuna, had Perfect as the referee in the Bret vs Luger matvh, Bret wins, Perfect/Luger is set (yes, we know it wouldnt happen but in a fantasy land) then I would have ran with the Macho vs Shawn Ladder Match idea Savage had, and maybe have Razors IC opponent be someone like Bam Bam Bigelow. Id feed 123 Kid to a newly turned heel Owen, and have Alundra face Luna and The Steiners take on the Quebeccars in a Flag Match.
Bret/Luger (with Perfect as the referee) Savage/Shawn (Ladder Match) Owen/Kid Steiners/Quebeccars (Flag Match) Razor/Bigelow (IC Match) Alundra/Luna (Womens) Bret/Yoko Main Event
Then that leaves a filler match such as Tatanka and The Gunns vs Crush and The Headshrinkers?

Yoko was too fat to wrestle twice. I'm amazed he even survived the night.

If he didn't want to wrestle twice he could have just lost to Luger.

Its not his fault those two goons couldnt win the Rumble. If anything, Yoko shouldnt have had to wrestle at all. But he did anyway. Because hes a goddamn champ.

10 years later it would have been a Triple Threat match No way the WWE would have a triple threat for the title at Wrestlemania 20.
