As of December 23, 2019, the answer is...
...MAYBE?
(Thread started May 18, 2015)
---
Well, he's lost three straight to Cena and Lana's out of the picture. Since some... no, wait... MANY of you are basically saying that this is a certainty to happen, let's put the internet money where your keyboard is.
I'm assuming that we're basing this off of Vladimir Kozlov and Tensai, the first of whom took over a year from his main event push ending to get to that stage, and the latter about nine months, so I'll be generous and say 12-18 months.

The thing is, Tensai and Kozlov sucked and killed crowds. Rusev is phenomenal and draws mega heat.

The thing is, Tensai and Kozlov sucked and killed crowds. Rusev is phenomenal and draws mega heat. But it doesn't stop people from saying that it's a certainty to happen. The guy's literally lost to only Cena, and apparently he's already dead in the water and getting fitted for jumpsuits. But you're right. Rusev is STILL over as a heel. What people don't remember about Kozlov and Tensai is that the dancing comedy face stuff was last-ditch attempts to get THEM over because they just weren't as top heels.

I think it'll happen sooner or later, but people always forget the long, middling stage of trying to sustain a guy's heat afterward until they give up and start losing left and right. Typically that process takes awhile.

OK, here's my question, why is it that people automatically assume he's gonna be dancing?

OK, here's my question, why is it that people automatically assume he's gonna be dancing? Maybe not dancing specifically. But there is a chance that he will end up as a comedy lower card face. At some point he might even get squashed by the NEXT monster heel experiment to show how powerful and dominant he is.

Yup it's a common trope that a big dominant monster wrestler who has a long undefeated streak upon his debut becomes a jobber to the stars after his undefeated streak is ended and then when he reaches rock bottom he becomes a dancing goofy comedy babyface just like Kozlov, Great Khali, Tensai, and others. Hopefully Rusev is really Umaga 2.0 and at worse gets stuck in upper midcarder purgatory just like the criminally underrated Umaga.

Both local men, Khali and Henry have done comedy as faces. Undertaker managed to avoid it as did Umaga (although the latter never turned face). I'd say it's 50/50.

Exactly, the thing about most of the monster heels that end up dancing comedy jobbers, like Kozlov and Tensai and Heidenreich, is that they sucked. Just that simple. They had to go that route because, quite frankly, they had nothing going for them but their size. Worst case scenario, Rusev ends up in more of the Ryback or Umaga category; big man in the upper midcard that's can fill in when the main event is looking scarce. And that's the worst case scenario.

Everyone YouTube "Budweiser Burger Commercial" and listen to the music.
Tell me you can't see Rusev in a track suit, shades, and a giant chain grooving to the ring while that plays. It's impossible.

He will be the next Friar Ferguson with an East Orthodox Church gimmick.

Remember, you don't even have to be a monster to be turned into "Comedy Dancin' Man".
"Party Away" Lance Storm and his supposed 8 foot long penis...

I can see why this assumption could be drawn, but Vince seems way too into Rusev for him to go down the Tensai road.

Rusev is more interesting than most of the roster, heel or face. He is WAY more than a generic foreign heel. He's an example of a guy who turned a mediocre gimmick into solid gold.
WWE have got to see that. That segment with Lana was fantastic. Guy is f***ing money.

OK, here's my question, why is it that people automatically assume he's gonna be dancing? Really, because it happened to Tensai and Brodus Clay. I can't even recall another big man who came in as a destroyer and ended up dancing. Rikishi was dancing right away. Umaga never danced.

Soon.
Let's be realistic, even though Rusev actually knows what he's doing in the ring, unlike a Brodus Clay (seriously... why did he win so many times if they didn't want to have him compete in title matches?!), once a monster heel loses to the heroic babyface, the WWE discards them because they need to focus all of their energy on the next guy to feed to Hogan... erm, Cena.
The only difference between today and 30 years ago is the heel monster goes away after a couple of months, while today, you feel obligated to put them on TV.
So, Rusev the Friendly Russian will happen by the end of the year.

Booked well, the Lana/Rusev saga could have Liz/Macho potential of awesomeness. After months of heart crushing dispute and shenanigans between the two, Lana is threatened by a vicious heel who want to molest her, then "BOOM" Rusev's music hits and he rushes the ring to save the beauty in peril. Crowd goes nuts, they kiss, instant mega face rusev starts to dance in the ring
