I know 3 DQs for a closed fist Tommy Dreamer in ECW by Bill Alfonzo during a tag match Test vs someone because Steph was busting his balls after turning on Vince and siding with HHH after marriage and Flair doing it to Bubba Ray during his time as owner of RAW.
Are there any other DQs or times where a closed fist punch was a storyline due to it being illegal? Basically notable times where other then the ref telling the wrestler to open the fist after the hundredth punch something happened?

Flair DQ'd bubba when they were facing evolution. That was one of funniest things ever I remember Lawler saying "good for flair its about time someone enforced that rule!" lol

Somewhat related, Jim Duggan was about to win the title from Lord Steven Regal on a fall '96 edition of WCW Saturday Night when he taped up his fist with athletic tape and then punch Regal in the mouth, leading crooked referee Nick Patrick to disqualify him for a closed fist and Tony Schivone fixated the rest of the night on "You know, Brain, it really wasn't a bad call on Patrick's part."

Jerry Lawler and Ted DiBiase had a match where they would be fined a shitload of money if they hit each other with closed fists.

All of the Shoot Wrestling promotions in Japan adhered to it, hence the palm strikes.

I never got the closed fist rule. Doesn't that kind of point out how fake wrestling is?

I never got the closed fist rule. Doesn't that kind of point out how fake wrestling is? I dunno, I always perceived it that it actually enhances the real side. An argument I've had put to me against the believability of wrestling is that if a man the size of, say, Vader punches you in the face then you're probably out for the count. By enforcing a no closed fist rule I thought it countered that argument by highlighting that these hits are more like tactical strikes rather than knock out punches. I am probably way off base though as I must admit I've never felt that I have a firm grasp of the alternatives to a closed fist that can be used. Even if I did I still don't think I'd be able to explain how Big Show gets away with the WMD.

I think a few years ago the WWE just said f*** it and dropped it as it was just a vestige of a day gone by
