Joseph Gordon Levitt? He seems to be doing the Natalie Portman/Mila Kunis thing where they're in a ton of movie one year and then disappear for like 2. He's actually been in quite a few movies over the past 5 years or so; Inception, Dark Knight Rises, Looper, Sin City 2. And he's going to be in a new Robert Zemeckis movie later this year. editOne person I want to throw in there is Lindsay Lohan. It's a shame her personal life fell apartment because she had acting chops. It may be a bit meanspirited to say, but I think actresses like Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence directly benefited from her career collapse. It doesn't help that outside of Mean Girls, a lot of her movies that started getting mainstream hype were not well received. Then her personal issues didn't help. I wouldn't say I'm surprised he's not a big deal due to his breakdowns (or the fact I'm not a huge fan of him as an actor) but it was not that long ago where they were trying to push Shia Lebouf as the next big thing in Hollywood (and that was not well received. There are also a lot of kids from the disney tv series and movies from the mid 2000's that looked like they would become big deals either in movies or music but outside of a very select few, none really became anything huge. With some like Zac Efron it's probably only a matter of time (he took time off to get sober)

I thought Frankie Muniz would be more of star then he turned out to be. He walked away from acting so he could be a pro race car driver, which he actually is decent at. He still does small bit parts in things but racing is his love.

any actor that's doing commercials, or reality tv now-or went from movies back to tv in some cases Really? Commercials are now getting some huge stars in them. George Clooney and Harrison Ford to name a couple.

Well, I guess to me, it used to be(and I didn't know this until a friend pointed it out to me) but some big name actors actually would make commercials overseas and we didn't see them in the states. So, to me, it seemed that they were above doing that sort of thing. Times change I guess, but it's weird to know that Clooney is doing commercials-I had no idea and I didn't think it was something he needed to do once he left tv for films

One of the reasons is because so many people are copying the Marvel method and they don't want to be locked down for 20 movies... and stuff like Netflix let's them do more quick vanity projects that take less time than movies.

Since a number of names brought up here have been covered (Billy Zane, Thora Birch, Bridget Fonda), you guys should check out What The Hell Happened? lebeauleblog.com/category/movies/what-the-hell-happened/The Chevy Chase, Val Kilmer and Debra Winger ones are best for just sheer goddamn lunacy.

Josh Hartnett was being pushed as the next big thing in 01-02 but must not have been well received.

The kid from Angels in the Outfield (forgot he's name) He appeared on Dark Knight and Don Jon and just vanished I have a soft spot for Joseph Gordon Levitt. Always did. Good actor and he does have good looks as well. "Don Jon" wasn't bad but I didn't really catch the ending of it and haven't felt the need to revisit it. It's one of those "one-and-done" films.

a historical biopic film about the 2012 Benghazi attacks directed by Michael Bay... Never have any combination of words made me wish to bash my head through a brick wall more than this combination. Please tell me you are kidding. Bay doesn't have the sensitivity required to make any film beyond "Explosions: The Movie!!!!" He certainly should not go anywhere near any movie about a recent tragedy. Hell, someone should have smacked him in the back of the head when he wanted to do Pearl Harbor.

Cillian Murphy - Batman begins, Red Eye, 28 days later then he seemed to disappear until Christopher Nolan brought him back for Inception and then he's gone again.

Disney is supposedly working on a new Tron movie. He had a cameo as the son of the main douchebag in the first one and an after credits scene suggested he was going to making a powerplay to take Incom over from Flynn.

Another one who just came to mind is Jason Sudeikis. In 2012, on this very forum, I said Sudeikis had "Will Ferrell potential" and "all the makings of a star." And while he's put together a nice career outside of "Saturday Night Live", with starring roles in "Hall Pass", "We're the Millers", and both "Horrible Bosses" movies, he's nowhere near the level I expected him to be. I thought for sure by now he'd be able to carry a movie to a $75 million box office on his presence in a movie alone. Granted, he's only been off SNL for a few years now, but it took Ferrell about two or three years before he was starring in "Old School", "Elf", and "Anchorman". From a cursory look at Sudeikis' filmography, it doesn't appear that he has anything resembling those sorts of roles on the horizon. He gets to bang Olivia Wilde. I'd say he's doing just fine.

Stephen Dorff. Thought he did awesome in Blade, figured he'd not be a huge star, but at least be in more big name movies than he has.

Remember Josh Server from Nick's old sketch show All That? It always bothered me that he never got anywhere. He was easily the most talented dude on that cast...that seems like faint praise, but it's not.

Seth Green. I thought he'd be a bigger deal than he is. I cant think of any major role he's had since the Austin Powers films outside voice acting though.

Honestly? Taylor Lautner.
Hear me out.
The guy was part of one of the biggest movie franchises of modern times, and what other movies? "Abduction" and... a direct-to-DVD release called "Tracers"? You'd think that with the following the Twilight movies has/had, he would be everywhere. From what I hear, it didn't happen because his father took over as his manager and started making demands for his 'client' and behaving like an all-around jerk behind the scenes. This lead to several producers passing on Lautner and giving other young actors a chance. Now it is said that Lautner's dad is super-nice to producers, directors and everyone in the industry who will still talk to him, trying to fix the damage he's done but still no one wants to work with Taylor.
Moral: karma works.
