You ever notice that black wrestlers often get complimented on their athleticism rather than any kind of specific technique or skill on their parts? It's almost like WWE is saying something about its opinion of black people. That's not a WWE exclusive and is quite standard actually. There's two things black folks are attributed in athletic/pseudo-athletic competition. They are "athletic." They are "explosive." As to why this phenomenon occurs, who knows? I tried to ask this black dude I know about it, but he was too busy athletically exploding all over the place to respond. Was he Shelton Benjamin?

But is she the "best pure athlete" like Billy Gunn was? I mean there are athletes and then there are pure athletes.

This happens all the time in televised sports. Watch any random NFL game, it's always: Black athlete: Just a freak athlete. Plays on instinct. Plays with a lot of flash. White athlete: Not the greatest athlete. Very cerebral player. Would play for free. It can sometimes seem like coded racism. Yeah..... SEEM LIKE. You're right. I sugar coated it because I don't come here for debates/arguments.

It's almost like WWE is saying something about its opinion of black people. Wrestling isn't the only one that does this. In the NFL, for example, watch how many black quarterbacks are praised for their "athleticism", while white quarterbacks are praised for their "intelligence." Also, if a black athlete does the impossible, it's because they're a "beast". If a white athlete does the impossible, it's "determination" and "intensity". They think they're slick, but they're not.

It's almost like WWE is saying something about its opinion of black people. Yet they can never quite get the big one. No, the WHC doesn't count. It's been the B title for many years and it should have been the IC title instead. Imagine if they took the focus from the WHC to the IC title.... Well, apart from The Rock, but the only time his father's side of his heritage was ever acknowledged was when he was a member of a bunch of angry black men complaining about being held down.

Because everyone is a fake athlete? In the case of Gunn and Shelton, it seems at least more appropriate than others because they were/are two guys who are very strong, as well as being agile. Shelton could jump high, run fast, lift most anyone, and had a lot of stamina, sort of a complete package. Billy on the other hand is known amongst wrestlers as being absurdly strong, is able to get most people up for the Jackhammer, while still being very quick. RVD would probably qualify, too, but they tended to just focus on his kicks and such. Goldberg and Rusev I'd say also count, but don't get that somewhat patronizing kind of commentary.

Cole: "How is Naomi so athletic?"
JBL: "Ya see MAGGLE you know, it seems these, uh, these african-american athletes, they, uh, they seem to have this, uh, this quick twitch, uh, muscle fire."

I think it's cause Goldberg adn Rusev have a more defined personality than Shelton and Gunn did so they can focus on other things other than just these athletes sure are athletic
