I'll just get right into it:
-Several years ago I had an original PS2 that constantly got "Disc Read Error" and was forced to replaced it with a slim -Not long after that I had an original Xbox 360 which was slow as shit and could't connect to the internet for some dumb ass reason, and I am told later died completely. -Around 2011 my N64 suddenly stopped working and I still have no idea why. -In 2012 a static shock fried my PS2 slim, rendering it useless. -And just now, the same day I bought a copy of Arkham Asylum...my PS3 got the yellow light of death.
I'm cursed I tell you. Cursed to constantly have consoles die completely.

I seem to have the same problem with Sony and Microsoft.
I've had to replace my PS2 twice, three PS3 replacements, and 3 X-Box 360 replacements.
Or it could be that Sony and Microsoft make shitty, unreliable products. Either/or.

Not to rub it in, but I've had the exact opposite happen. My PS2 served me loyally and faithfully up until I got my 360... and my 360 worked perfectly until I got my Xbox One. So they all exist just until I no longer need them.

I only had a problem with two of my playstation 2's... my NES worked way longer than it should have... well except the latch broke and I had to start using a second game to keep the cartridge down

I had the disc read error. Sony had a class action suit, so they fixed mine for free. Other htan that, I've never had a problem with a console.

Seems like a rough year for everyone. I've lost my Zelda: ALBW edition 3DS XL and my PS2 is starting to not read discs (takes a few tries to get it going).

Wow, man. I've never had a single console problem. Sorry to heat that...it can't be your electrical wiring can it?

Newer consoles tend to break sooner due to the complexity of the machines. On the other end of the scale, my Atari 2600 is like 30 years old and still going strong. The only thing I've ever had to fix on it was one of the switches on the front.

I've been fairly lucky with consoles. Did have the circular thing inside the ps1 that you put the disc on break, but I ordered a replacement from an ad in the back of a magazine for a tenner and it was an easy enough fix.

When my 2006 360 got the red rings in 2008 the same day Gears of War 2 released and I got a early copy of Smackdown vs Raw 2009 a week before it's release I cried like a bitch.
Then later that day my parents bought me the Xbox 360 elite and I ended up giving the fixed red ringed Xbox to my brother.

I had to replace my PS2 with the slim version due to disc read errors. To be fair, it did survive a 6 foot drop.
Had to replace the laser on my PS3.
My Dreamcast decided to stop working one day. Several months later, it decided to start working fine again.

With the n64, did you check the expansion/jumper pak? take it out, put it back in good. I thought my n64 was dead, even ordered one on eBay, then tried it and it worked like normal again (I sent the one from eBay back and got my money back).
I went through 3 Sega genesis, first two were the model 2, ports got pretty bad, the model 1 i got 10 years ago has held up great.
N64 still good since I got it in 98.
Ps2, original one barely works, tags forever to read ps2 discs, won't play dvds or ps1 games , I got a slim one at goodwill the other year that is still good.
gba sp since 2003 still works like a charm.
xbox360, on my 3rd one more, rrod killed the first two, got a slim one for now.
ps4, still good!

I once bought one of those PS3s with the extra ports as a present for my then boyfriend. He met a girl on the PSN using that PS3, and dumped me for her.
Shortly after we broke up, the system was rendered useless when it was hit by a stray bullet from a drive-by shooting.

If anyone in my house buys a first hand console, it will die within six months to a years/ If anyone in my house buys a console from a pawn shop or a friend, that shit will last forever.
