The biggest thing to really come out of the thread about people you'd think would be a bigger deal for me is the fact that there really haven't been very many new bankable stars in movies in recent years.
When you think of people that their name alone is enough to sell tickets to some action or drama movie, is there anyone who's been added to that list since Jason Statham? I'd say Chris Pratt looks like he has a pretty good shot at it, and Tom Hardy could. A number of the Marvel people probably stand a chance maybe.
Off the top of my head:
Arnold Schwarzenegger Bruce Willis Jackie Chan Samuel L. Jackson Sylvester Stallone Denzel Washington Keanu Reaves Leonardo Decaprio Russell Crowe Jet Li Will Smith Jason Statham
I guess maybe The Rock and Mark Wahlberg as post 2000s entries?

There's no maybe about The Rock, he's a definite star. I'd also put Hugh Jackman on the list.
Taron Egerton could get on the list, it all depends on how he follows up Kingsman.

Jennifer Lawrence Kevin Hart Shailene Woodley is on the cusp. Channing Tatum and Chris Hemsworth should be but it's hard to overlook stuff like White House Down/Jupiter Ascending/Blackhat, even if they weren't necessarily the problems with those movies. But not that motherf***er Joel Kinnaman and they need to stop trying with him and he's boring.

Robert Downey Jr.. Sure, he's been around for a while but now he's seen as a top star.
Liam Neeson. Again, around for years but "Taken" made him into a top draw.

Robert Downey Jr. belongs on the current list. Yes he had all the promise of a youth but kept pissing it away. Remember he started out the century as a costar on Ally Mcbeal and a part of such crap movies as Gothika. Then he really turned at all around and has had a second wind like so many other big names. I'd say everything in the last ten years has been bigger for him then all his previous works. (beaten to it)
Also you are only listing action stars. I'd say Will Farrel is the biggest thing to come out of SNL since the 80s and drives as much box office as over half your list. I'd also list a lot of the Apatow favorites as names that can sell. Jonah Hill, James Franco, Seth Rogen, Steve Carrel, and John C. Reilly particularly.

There are tons of marketable new comedy actors.

I think the franchise is more bankable than the star these days, of course a franchise featuring a big star is even better.
As a result I think there be fewer and fewer big Hollywood stars as time goes on. Especially when you take typecasting from those big franchises into account.

Now and days, studios are more franchise driven more than ever, so there's been less focus on individual stars driving the movie.

Bradley Cooper starred in the two highest-grossing films of 2014 and has 3 Oscar nominations. He's quite the star.

Top ten money making stars of the last few years, according to Wiki. So add Bullock, Lawrence, Downey Jr, Jackman, McCarthy, Wahlberg,

Serena aside, both JLaw and Bradley Cooper are easily at megastar status by now.

I've been arguing their really isn't anything as a bankable star unless they are perfectly casted in a interesting looking movie or franchise. The only actors that have drawing power are comedians really. Like you know what you're expecting to get from a Will Ferrell or Kevin Hart movie or a Steve Carrel movie and legions of their fans will always come and watch their movies. If you don't like the comedian you don't watch the movie, but if you like the comedian and the comedian is very popular and well liked across the nation he'll draw in a crowd. Like it's one of the reasons why I think Will Smith is one of the few true bankable stars in Hollywood. He's often very humorous in his movies and lots of his movies have humour and he has in own distinct brand of humour. The trailers for Hancock had tons of humour, the trailers and word of mouth of After Earth had no humour whatsoever. Plus he has his Fresh Prince of Bel Air reputation of being funny.
But yeah there are probably more A-Listers than bankable stars. Like technically Shia LeBlouf was a unavoidable A-Lister that people wouldn't stop talking about and appeared in bunch of high grossing franchise movies/TV shows like Transformers, Indiana Jones, and Wall Street. But it's not like you watched any of those movies because of Shia LaBeouf.

In addition to that, the fact that people are savvier and savvier in demanding quality from movies also ties into it. There are big stars, even on franchises- but usually the best test of whether someone's truly a BIG Hollywood star or not lies in the answer to the question "Would I see a movie, knowing nothing else about this movie EXCEPT that this person's starring in it?"- and most people have gotten to a point where they would want some quality control to a film.

Franchises are the bankable element now, not individual stars.
Same probably applies to WWE. It's the name that draws, not the people themselves.
