Yeah, and right after he had chosen AJ Styles to carry on his legacy. And before that Triple H. And now his daughter Charlotte.
The guy goes through protégés as fast as he goes through wives.

Ric: I'm telling ya, Hunter! I can make anybody on this damn roster a star! Pick the biggest goof in the locker room and I'll hand down the Figure Four to him! WOOOO!!!
HHH: Ok. Hm...that guy! *points at Miz*
Flair: ...f***.

Remember when Ric Flair was Carlitos mentor and tag team partner?
Ric's career did get pretty weird after like 2005.

No. But I do remember Ric Flair making two one off appearances with Miz for two nostalgia themed Raws. Flair was never officially miz's manager.

"Hey Ric, here's a paycheck. Go out there and say this goof is your protege."
Ew. I'd imagine that's why he still rocks the figure four, although I almost didn't even remember his being associated with Flair at all. That one sure stuck.
He will never be someone Flair would kayfabe second. That is such desperate horseshit from when they first had Miz, decided they liked Miz, but couldn't yet figure out how to get him over.
He sort of found his own way in the end, thank Jebus.

The only thing I remember from this was Flair standing on the apron, dry-humping the air after Miz won a match.
Boy, I can't begin to tell you how much I wish that wasn't the case.

To be fair, "Ric Flair's legacy" has been continuously tarnished by the man himself for at least a decade.

The fans wanted Ric to manage Dolph. Dolph wanted Ric to manage Dolph. Ric wanted to manage Dolph.
So they put him with Miz.

I should just note that when you Google "Ric Flair Dolph Ziggler", the headlining article is about Ric Flair still wanting to manage Dolph Ziggler. I swear, it's like Zack Gowen all over again; they made Ric Flair endorse the wrong guy from Ohio.

I can imagine how Vince told Flair the news and he had to pull Vince aside and tell him what an awful idea it was while the Miz stood there awkwardly

I try not to, after a decent start face Miz was already struggling and that awful segment with Flair ensured I could never support him again.
Miz couldn't even do the figure-four properly!
