A pretty common criticism of WWE's production is that wrestlers always have to face the hard camera whenever they do anything. So, why not have more than 1? You get more angles during matches and it gets rid of the awkward "I'm about to chokeslam you, but let's first turn this way" thing that gets awkward. I know it's Kevin Dunn and all, but it seems fairly straightforward to me.

They're probably afraid of another camera being caught on tape. For some reason they don't like all that production stuff being seen.

If they had more than one hard camera, or one lasting for more than 4 hours, they should probably consult a physician.

It reminds me of Jericho's story about a cage match he had with Batista where Batista bladed and they were both fined a ridiculous amount because it happened at the start of the PG era. When Vince showed the video, the footage was seen from a camera angle that Chris had never seen before. I figure Vince has a couple of those set up around the arena. Now I'm not saying that one of those secret cameras is inside the women's locker room or inside a toilet at WWE HQ. But I'm not saying that it's impossible to believe that Vince could have a camera inside the women's locker room or inside a toilet at WWE HQ.

If there were more than one, why would it be the "hard" camera? It needs that exclusivity to matter. What are they just going to use technology to have a bunch of different cameras effortlessly always have the best shot possible? Clear out your desk. Your services are no longer required.

Cameras being in the shot is generally considered not very good presentation.
Also less seats are sold because they have to make more room for a second camera.

Speaking of secret cameras I remember on Raw one time during the height of The Shield the production team botched and showed The Shield just standing around waiting for there queue, and I've always wondered why they had a camera rolling on The Shield just standing around if they knew they would never show it.

I think they just record everything in case there's ever a need for something specific. Also yeah, the production reasons for why only 1 hard camera is used makes sense. Guess I was just looking at the actual filming aspect of it.

The hard camera is actually about 4 or 5 in that one section and takes up at least 100 premium seats, so to do another section would be a huge cost in getting the cameras and in revenue lost from those seats.
Personally I'd love to see them have it be like NJPW where the hard camera is opposite the entrance so you get that in the background but I can get why WWE would rather have the crowd.

Vince also wanted to know why the Shield was always wet, so he kept a camera on them.

Kevin Dunn hates "unique". Everything must look and feel exactly the same.

Why do wrestlers have to wrestle for the hard camera in the first place? The same reason backstage segments all have merchandise posters on the wall, colored lighting in the background, and everybody stands tilted to each other so their face hits the camera, creating some really dumb looking segments. Today's product is performed for the television viewer, not for the fans in the audience. Look at Cena's entrance these days. Even when he faces the crowd opposite hard camera he still holds up the belt so the television viewer sees the front of it.

It's holding back their potential to grow when they're telling the wrestlers to wrestle for the camera.

It's holding back their potential to grow when they're telling the wrestlers to wrestle for the camera. But isn't wrestling for the mass audience is what pro wrestling really is? A presentation? It's basically athletic theater. In theater they teach actors more about how to act in front of the mass audience (the camera) and not to act away from it no matter how unnatural or awkward the concept is or how it can take away bit from the scene. Or how it may hold back a finer acting performance. But hey they do it anyways because the performance maybe technically finer for them, it sucks for the mass viewers. Wrestlers botching that's their own faults. They are paid for a job, they are expected to do it. Wrestling is a hard profession to do, if not one of the hardest and mistakes are inevitable But every professional wrestler in the WWE knew what they were signing up for that it's going to be the hardest wrestling job they are going to do because it's on National Television. They accepted the risks of more possible mistakes and failures to be made and exposed when they accepted the job. They know they need to adapt. That's the risk you take for fame and fortune. No such thing as a easy job or easy money. It's almost rarer than f***ing a unicorn.

The cameras' purpose is just to capture the action so that it can be broadcast to those of us at home.
