Like Barrett is continued to be booked the same before he was King except he has a name change now and new entrance attire. But really he's still treading water like he was before he was the King. Meanwhile they are doing a fantastic job building up Neville and him winning KOTR would continue the momentum and pace he's currently on. In fact it might actually accelerate his rise up the card.

Because after WWE curtailed the Bad News gimmick he was left with much less to work with and needed the change, whereas Neville's act is fresh and with plenty to do?

Neville doesn't need the "King" gimmick and hopefully never will.
Barrett was as stale as he was for the 2/3 years before he was injured. Bad News or not. It's a shame because he's a good talent. Just can't seem to take it to the next level. Even the King stuff is falling flat so far.

Jerry Lawler. Even the King of Harts, Owen Hart.

At least when Sheamus had the "king gimmick but not really" gimmick his entrance attire looked awesome.

Because WWE creative suck?
"What shall we do with that guy who won King of the Ring, give him a push?" "Nah, job him out cleanly to Truth!"

That's the most prevalent problem with the booking. Wins and losses don't matter, therefore they think "yeah Wade lost, but he's still KOTR."
Makes me wonder what they would have done with him had Bryan not been injured.

They seem to prefer heels winning it and then having a pompous King gimmick. Would have probably been better if someone like Neville won then don't actually dress them like an actual king just say they are y'know, good at wrestling.

The whole thing was pointless to announce a Tournament the night before RAW and end it 2 days later on a Network exclusive. There was a time when the whole thing was the 5th Biggest PPV of the year.

I assumed it was to get the "Bad News" moniker off of Barrett because the crowd liked it and the WWE didn't want to turn him face.
He hasn't said that catchphrase in some time and now he's stuck with King puns. Poor guy.

They wanted a king gimmick, faces can't be kings*. They can be KOTR winners but not kings.
*Unless your Jerry Lawler in 1970's Memphis.

I don't understand why they all have to have the "King" gimmick. Why can't some of them just win the tournament, and then keep wearing their normal gear but have the announcers and the wrestler themself constantly put over the fact that he won the tournament?
