"I swear to GOD, bro, I have nothing against Jim Cornette, bro! I just think we should have a hot piece of ass representing TNA management on camera, bro! That's what wrasslin' needs, some good ol' tits n' ass, bro!"

I think being respected is more important then being cool. Jim Ross during the attitude era wasn't cool or hip. But, he was respected and that's how I would view someone who should be put in an authority figure like Cornette was in 2006.
And that's another thing. Who the hell wants a hip and cool boss character? Seriously, just get some old timer who the people know and can take seriously as someone who seems to know what they're doing. The cool and hip people should just be talent.

The funniest part of this is that the talent he cites as his favorites are all guys that started to get really questionable booking around this time.

The one thing I'm getting from this... Eww, I may share the same celebrity crush as Vince Russo.

Ironically I posted something in another TNA thread saying these things as well, the idea that I never quite knew what TNA was going for as a company, almost like a weird hybrid of ECW mixed with a more traditional WCW/Southern style of wrestling. The difference to me regarding Ross vs. Cornette is that Ross had credibility as the industry's top play by play man. Cornette spent 95% of his career on national TV being one of the most obnoxious mamma's boy managers ever.
So yes, I agree with Russo on diagnosing TNA's problems. I think I'd probably differ with him on the solutions though, haha.

Jim Cornette was perfect for that role, and I don't see how having a female executive who's only purpose is to be eye candy really helps the narrative. People give Stephanie McMahon grief because she doesn't really get any comeuppance and all that, but at least she fits with what's going on. Russo's idea would just be "here's a female, gawk!".

Reading that email back, absent the context of who either Carter or Russo are, you'd be slowly nodding your head on some of Russo's points, then slowly see the gates of hell unhinged as the proposed alternative becomes apparent. Jesus, it's like a Monty Python sketch in email form. Like a narrated read-through of the email, then boom! smash-cut to ninjas and X-Division battledome.

Very surprised to see him going to bat for Joe. Russo got a lot of the flak for Joe's booking.
Gotta say, I think he makes a really good point here. Broken clock and all.

It's weird how agreeable a lot of the stuff in the email is, especially the part about the old school elements in TNA at the time. The unfortunate part is that Russo managed to go about everything so wrong that the product stuck itself in 1997.

I figured this was going to be the email he mistakenly sent to Mike Johnson. Did Mike ever publish that email?

Nah, after Russo started calling it a work and denying it, Mike gave him an hour or two to tell the truth or he'd publish. That caused TNA to jump in and I think Dixie herself called and asked him to wait a bit longer, within an hour he had an apology from Russo and another from TNA so he never did.

I know she was more of a secretary than an authority figure, but I assume Russo came up with the Ms. Tessmacher character (is he a Superman fan?). He also sounds like the brains behind Miss Hancock in WCW. I think Vince Russo has a hot secretary fetish.

I think this was his introduction to prepping Dixie to become an authority figure. Once he gets her on screen he can stroke her ego publicly and become her favorite. Tina Fey isn't a sexy secretary type. She's an awkward but cool boss.

so uh... doesn't using the term hip in 2006 kinda prove that you aren't? I mean... I haven't heard that term since the 90's (which I suppose makes sense considering who wrote the e-mail hasn't been relevant since then) I think this was his introduction to prepping Dixie to become an authority figure. Once he gets her on screen he can stroke her ego publicly and become her favorite. Tina Fey isn't a sexy secretary type. She's an awkward but cool boss. Yeah, this comes off like a blatant power play... we need a hot sexy boss... hey Dixie you could play that role bro!
