The new Muse album comes out officially on June 5th but via Youtube and Spotify they have released like half of it at this point. They just released a new song today:
Thoughts so far? I've liked everything except "Mercy" so far. Muse is my favorite band and I was pretty disappointed with the last album so I'm hoping this one is an improvement.

"Psycho" is amazing. It feels like it could be taken both as a "let's go kick some ass" song or an anti-war protest.

Every track released makes me miss Origin of Symmetry and Showbiz more and more. I used to really enjoy Muse and Absolution, especially, was an album on heavy rotation during my years in college. I knew the album inside out, learning the tracks on guitar and playing along to the album consistently. Then either I matured or Muse didn't, I don't know what happened. Now, I can't stand them. I have hated every track on this new album and the last time I heard I track I've enjoyed was "Undisclosed Desires" - a superbly funky track with a delicious chorus.
They have almost become too grand in their approach to new music. I don't mind silly, ostentatious and epic rock music designed for stadiums and festivals, but when every track is seemingly an experiment into exactly how much the band can get away with on the massive budget allocated to their new record, it grows tiresome and a burden to listen to. Muse were once a band that I could either quietly listen to as I'm writing an essay, or a band that I could rock out to when the mood struck me. Now, I'd be embarrassed to listen to any of their new songs. "Psycho", for example, is impressively bad. A generic drop-D riff and the usual harmonic guitar licks over Matt's yelps may have once convinced me to throw up the horns, but at 28, it's not enough good enough to be a guilty pleasure.

I stopped paying attention when Resistance was released. I thought it was garbage. All their previous albums were awesome though.
