What was it like up until Owen or even Stu's death? I know Owen faced Shamrock in a match inside the dungeon at Fully Loaded 1998 but when everything went down, after the Screwjob, was the Hart Family on any sort of friendly terms with Vince? I figured Owen's death hurt that big time, but what was it like?

Some of the Harts actually attended a RAW in Canada after Owen's death. Bruce, Diana and others took the clearly out-of-it Stu, as a show of 'solidarity' with the WWE and to 'mend bridges'. Really it was because Bruce wanted money to restart Stampede Wrestling and Diana was trying to get Davy Boy back into the company. Bret, surprisingly enough, was not okay with them going. And her certainly wasn't okay with the 'Hi, Bret' sign one of them waved at the camera.
So I guess they hated Vince up until the point when they thought they could get something out of him.
Before Owen's death, I honestly don't know. I don't think Bret's book really touches on it, nor does Martha's. I guess some of them blamed Vince and the WWE, and some didn't

Yeah Diana and Bruce did major Dick-riding on Vince, hell even Smith who blamed Bret for the screwjob.
After they took Stu to that Raw they marched inside Vince's office and overstayed their welcome, Vince actually kicked them out, Bret tells the story on his book.
I don't blame Diana that much because she was trying to get her husband, Davey Boy back in the wwe, but Bruce is just scummy, he's jealous that Bret surpassed him in every way and he'll always be known as Bret Hart's brother.

So I take it Bret's relationship with Diana and Davey Boy wasn't so great either?

Diana wasn't trying to get Davey a job. They were already divorced by this point, Davey was bad on drugs and was soon to end up with Bruce's missus.
So many of the Hart's were / are scum bags. People should find Smith Hart on Facebook, he comes across as a particular breed of loser. It's amazing Bret allowed them to be a part of WM26 after all the shit they put him through, classy move.

Its funny how the Hart Family are portrayed as such a wonderful family when in actuality they are a complete train wreck.

As can often be the case with large families, sadly.

And families that have a degree of fame, pair that with the lunacy wrestling in the 80s seemed to induce and you have a recipe for disaster.

Its funny how the Hart Family are portrayed as such a wonderful family when in actuality they are a complete train wreck. Similar to how the Von Erichs were portrayed as the poster family of good, clean Christian living when in reality they were the opposite.

So I take it Bret's relationship with Diana and Davey Boy wasn't so great either? Oh boy, Bret and Diana seem to have the worst relationship ever, if you read Bret's book, Martha's book or Diana's book (not that I have. Or could, because it's not on sale anywhere). There's some real hatred there. Bret's troubles with his family in the late 90s, early 00s seemed to really trouble him, in his book. I think he changed a bit after the stroke though, and seems far more forgiving. However, I remember him saying in his book that Bruce turned up to his hospital room with TV cameras, while Bret was still totally debilitated. Bret and Davey did fall out, but Bret said they reconnected not long before Davey died. The family dynamic as a whole seems to be a source of shame for Bret, and a source of disgust for Martha, and Bret said it upset both Stu and Helen greatly. But again, the Hart & Soul DVD has them all playing nice. Probably because of the money. I guess it's not that unusual in a large family of competitive siblings, when one or two completely outshine the others, and make so much more of their lives

Well, Bulldog did go back after both Montreal and Owen's death. I remember that they filmed a series of sit down interviews with Diana and Davey that allegedly buried Bret and cleared WWE of any wrongdoing in both the screw job and Owen's death. The segments never aired.

I love how Vince was one of the first to call up Bret after the stroke. He can be such a class act at times.

How's Bret's relationship with his children? I don't recall ever hearing they had the issues Bret and his siblings did.

How's Bret's relationship with his children? I don't recall ever hearing they had the issues Bret and his siblings did. according to Julie there were some issues with Blade for a bit after Bret moved to Hawaii since Blade idolized Bret, but now it seems like Bret really went out of his way to repair his relationship with all of his kids for being gone their entire childhood. At least to the point where all of them showed up at Bret Hart Day WWE did a few years ago and all were caught on camera crying tears of joy. Diana has always been a bit starstruck and loved the spotlight. Remember when Harry got fired a few years ago even he had to tell his mom to shut up because she was talking to anybody who would listen. Davey Boy was just easily influenced by people and his drug use led to some issues but Bret even said in his book is that he felt awful that he wasn't there for Davey more.

I could have sworn that I read somewhere that Bulldog was already in talks with re-signing with the WWF before Owen's death. Am I wrong? I wonder if had Owen lived, we would have seen those two team up again. Of course, seeing Bulldog in 1999, he was a shell of his former self.

Diana seems to be kind of the nutcase of the family. Bruce is basically by all accounts a slimy weasel.
