So I only just found out these two wrestled and it looks like a bad ass f***ing match. I had randomly selected a Spring Stampede 94 highlight video to play on the tv while I listen to music and be on my laptop and this match came on with Ray as "The Boss" and quickly grabbed my attention! Stiff as f***, blood and highspots from two awesome and agile super heavyweights. Go to 8.09 to see the highlights: www.youtube.com/watch?v=h31_NaZvkwkI was thinking of putting this in the "That Happened?" thread but figured it was on a big enough show that any WCW fans from this period would definitely know about it so I thought an appreciation thread would be better. For anyone who's seen the match how good is it as a whole as opposed to just the best moments with no sound?

Spring Stampede might be the finest Pay-Per-View WCW ever put on, with the one-two punch of Spring Stampede '94 and Slamboree '94 a surefire candidate for best top-to-bottom consecutive shows from any promotion.
If you haven't seen the entire event, it's absolutely worth watching.

Boss/Guardian Angel vs. Vader happened at seemingly EVERY OTHER WCW PPV in 1994. Spring Stampede, Bash at the Beach, Fall Brawl, Halloween Havoc...
Always a good match. Good chemistry.

More Bossman goodness! Here he is working Kenta Kobashi in early 90s AJPW:

There's not a bad match on the card.

I don't have too many solid memories of WCW during this time, but I do remember when Ray Traylor came in as 'The Boss.' Supposedly he was also called 'The Man' at one point, but I don't actually remember seeing that. Of course WWE legal stepped in and he was switched to The Guardian Angel for awhile before reverting back to his '80s Bubba Rogers gimmick.

I remember this as a kid. When it was announced for Spring Stampede, I was beyond pumped. When they announced it for Halloween Havoc for what seemed like the 50th time, I was like "Ugh...seriously?" They did have great chemistry though. Two of my favorites.

I was thinking about this the other day, seeing as a fair few Bossman threads had appeared I watched Bossman vs Bam Bam Bigelow from the 1993 Royal Rumble and thought it was dissapointing and slugglish for two of the most agile big men around. I was wondering how the Bossman/Vader matches were as I cant remember seeing them, and if I did it would have been long ago.

Ah I see, I probably should have cagedmatched this. It was just a match that never popped into my head before as something that would exist and if it of I would have thought of it as a cool little dream match, I love the agile big guys. Now that I think about it I definitely did know about the match existing before after a *read through the ppv results of every WWF, WCW and ECW on Wikipedia* marathon but that was a long time ago.

But, like WCW in 94, never mind that, here comes Hogan!

I was more of a WWF fan but during the 1994 time period I was definitely appreciating WCW. There was a small time (mid 1994) when WCW had gone away with a lot of the short lived gimmicks and had some great matches with guys like Boss and Vader, Sting, Rude, Austin, Dustin, Arn Anderson and other no nonsense or really no gimmick needed type guys.

Big Bubba seemed low rent to me, as did the Guardian Angel.
Boss v Vader though? Good stuff

It's weird to think Bossman wouldn't be that old now if he was alive. He could of had a couple of runs left in him.

The Fall Brawl '94 match is a real favourite of mine, with Boss Man vs Vader then the winner fights Sting. Really good long match.
Also seem to remember a surprisingly good Hacksaw - Vader bout in either this year or 1995...

Of course WWE legal stepped in and he was switched to The Guardian Angel for awhile before reverting back to his '80s Bubba Rogers gimmick. I actually liked the kayfabe explanation why he no longer was called the Boss. Nick Bockwinkel said since he was the WCW commissioner, he was the Boss and Traylor got stripped of that name.
