Asked if this should have its own thread given it's kind of a big deal if true and might bare its own set of discussion separate from the tapings, got the go-ahead. Given the context of it does naturally spoil a few things, so that in mind, this happened at tonight's tapings - Kurt Angle announced at tonight's Impact Wrestling tapings that he will be taking some time off as he has a tumor in his neck and needs to have surgery. We don't know yet if this is part of an angle as new TNA World Heavyweight Champion Ethan Carter III came out and took credit for the tumor and attacked Angle until Chris Melendez made the save. Before Angle made the announcement, he did mention that he will get his rematch against EC3 some time in the future but gave the impression it could be a while. Iiiii have no idea if that's a storyline thing or not. Normally I'd say you wouldn't expect anyone to jump straight to cancer (or at least something that could eventually become cancer) as a wrestling write-off, but this is TNA and all so I wouldn't entirely rule it out either. Either way, even if it's not cancerous and he's perfectly healthy - and I sure hope so - if Angle is genuinely getting surgery on his neck yet again I can't see any doctor ever approving him to get back in the ring. Not after this many and with the shape he's in as it is. Edit: Further information - Update: 10:14 PM: PWInsider has learned that the tumor is something Angle has known about for about a year but of late it has been causing him some issues leading to muscle atrophy, which is why he's having surgery. edit: 7/16 - Second Surgery From the Wrestling Observer site: |

Yeah but he's had that on and off over the years, all depending on if he was on PEDs or off. Timing is weird though. My problem is simply, this being an angle to write him off to free up some salary (plus he is only part time) wouldn't shock me. Plus it'd be topical like Billy wants. For Angle's health I hope it is but that'd be low. |

If he's legit ill, then it's sad that he's exhausted his good will with people with all of his nonsense over the years to the point that everybody is going to assume that it's bullshit, anyway.

I want Angle to be healthy, but holy shit if this company is using a kayfabe tumor as a booking tool they all deserve to fail at anything they will ever do ever.
