I kinda get the feeling that Pope doesn't really care and is just in it for the alleged checks. I'd rather see him in the ring. But yeah, he's still better than Josh. I have no broadcast experience and can get terrible nerves when speaking publicly... and I'm probably a better commentator than Josh. Tony Atlas would be a step up in quality compared to Josh.

I haven't heard that Daddy said that much since I went to a hood strip club in the ATL.

He's just all over the place on commentary and trying to establish a "personality" of his own.

Maybe it was his time with tazz were the commentary was awful because tazz loves to bicker on commentary and his contract was running out so he probably didnt care that much so maybe that dragged him down. But what i've heard at slammiversary he seems to be doing a fine job.

If he had an experienced color commentator to lead him along it might come out better for him but I think TNA is letting him do what he wants on commentary. The one match when I think of him doing good commentary is the Orton V. Christain match on smackdown for the title.

I was actually gonna make a thread comparing him to Taz. He's not blessed with a great counterpart, but given how the Pope just craps on the product when he needs to be serious and is serious when the product is crap, he's more of a distraction than an asset.

"As they say, hell has frozen over. Well this guy kicked down the door once it was frozen!" You're uh, mixing your sayings there, Poop. God, that's great. "A bird in the hand, daddy, amounts to a hill of beans! He shoudda looked before he rubbed another man's rhubarb!"

In defense of Pope, you try selling or even trying to call a good match with the crap that was/is TNA Slammiversary and also knowing how dysfunctional things are backstage with half the roster leaving and Dixie screwing up even more than usual.

Pope is like if you combined a guy mimicking Dusty Rhodes badly, combined him with Booker T's inability to make sentences make sense (garbage top), and then take all of that and mix it up with that "retired boxer with the smushed face" boxing announcer from the Family Guy where Lois boxes and you have The Pope.
