It's been demoted from "world" to "local" status. *must resist typing....* *Can't do it* "Local Title Ruins Everything" That gives me an idea for the title of the Death of TNA book. Local Company Ruins Everything: The Death of TNA.

Not even sure WWE can really make that claim under absolute scrutiny; they don't have a "true" world title, one that is defended (even if worked) against top people from around the world at the same time as across the world. It's a company title, it's not going to get defended against the best in Japan or Europe or Mexico, just against Ambrose or Ziggler in Japan or Europe or Mexico. The whole meaning of the world really sort of lost its way with the evaporation of the territory system. Not that it really changes the topic at hand, but PWI didn't recognize WWF as having a world title for many years. If I have my timeline right, they stopped recognizing them as such around the time Vincent J. quietly rejoined the NWA and wouldn't reaffirm it as a world title until some point after Hogan won it. Technically no promotion can make that claim for their championship, so the notoriety/visibility of WWE's world title gives it its top tier status in my eyes mainly. Pretty much. Sadly, and somewhat ironically, the one belt that comes closest still is the NWA title, since it has had defenses and/or trades in Japan, Canada and Mexico in the last decade that weren't just one promotion's guys.

Is it bad news? Sure. But the good news is nobody even knew PWI existed so the only people (us) who will know about their decision, already knew TNA was in trouble. So little to no damage is being done.

It's okay, I don't recognize PWI as anything of value either.

Gotta love PWI thinking:
Abyss was TNA Champ: Yup its a World title.
Meth'd up Jeff Hardy was TNA Champ: Yup its a World title.
Almost unable to stand Kurt Angle was TNA Champ: Yup its a World title.
EC3 is champ: Nope its no longer a world title.

They're all fake titles, do they really have legitimacy to them to begin with?

Well you have to take into consideration that the shape the company is currently in, about to be cancelled, EC3 or anyone could've been champion and the company would still be on the crapper. I'm sorry it's not EC3's fault, but the TNA belt can't be considered a world title.

PWI should just wait a few months. TNA won't even exist.

They're all fake titles, do they really have legitimacy to them to begin with? Yeah, it's all a work. So if a promotion calls their title a "world title" then it's a world title. Even if they're an indy that only runs out of high school gym, if they call they're top belt a world title then it is..... Unless they have some sort of xenophobic policy banning foreigners from coming to that high school gym to compete for the title. I always found it odd that PWI sparingly gave out world title status, but had no problem with recognizing the World Wrestling Council's Universal Title as such. Isn't the universe bigger than the world? So does that mean the WWC is the most important promotion out there?

PWI did the same thing to ECW months before it died. It took them forever to recognize ECW as a world title which finally happened due to ECW's regular ppvs and the TNN tv deal. Once ECW was cancelled by TNN, the world title status went bye bye.
