The way I see it, the quality of the weekly TV shows is seemingly steadily decreasing
Back in the mid-90s, ECW chants would surface here and there
Back in the mid-00s, TNA chants could be heard very few times
Would it be a bad idea for the smark audience to chant NXT now, to show SOME kind of protest against the subpar product?
Only booing Ziggler/Lana f.e. might lead Vince to believe that only the performers are at fault

Best way to protest is simply to not show up. Don't give the company your money in any way shape or form.

Chanting is futile in this situation. Dead crowds, low attendance, significantly lower TV ratings.

No because then they'll call up the more popular NXT stars leaving us with Mojo vs Bull main-events, nobody will chant for that.
I started writing this as something intentionally ridiculous but thinking about it they actually did sabotage their own version of ECW in a similar way.

I started writing this as something intentionally ridiculous but thinking about it they actually did sabotage their own version of ECW in a similar way. This- at best. At worst, they'll just turn NXT into something similar or worse than Raw to make Raw/SD seem good by default. ...and that's not considering the conspiracy theory of NXT: Pro wrestling on television has always been a glorified infomercial. In the early days, pro wrestling was an infomercial paid for by the promotion to get people to the arena for live shows. When the modern era started, it slowly turned to "the television is an infomercial to get you to buy the PPVs. Now, WWE programming is an infomercial to get you to buy the WWE Network. ...with that in mind, you suddenly have to get the sickening theory: If you're furious by some of WWE's treatments- be it "they won't give Divas a chance", "the show is terrible", "we want better workrate/characters/writing/etc."...then it stands to reason WWE's bad deliberately- knowing the casual fan won't care about the quality like hardcore fans do, and hardcore fans will be willing to think "You want a GOOD wrestling product that answers all your concerns about WWE? Watch NXT...oh, by the way, you have to pay $9.99 a month for it..." Paranoid? Maybe- but knowing how wrestling on television operates, it shouldn't shock anyone if that's the game...

I think fans should chant CM Punk. That will really stick it to the company.

No because if the WWE can hear your chants, they already got your money.
Not going to shows and giving them your moeny has a much higher chance of WWE caring about the fact that their product is stale than some smarky chant.

Chanting NXT is a dumb form of protest. Its like going to a store and booing regular coke and chanting Cherry Coke.
The money goes to the same place.

I really don't see why this is so hard for people to understand.
You REALLY want to show your displeasure with the product? ...Be quiet. Don't say a thing. Don't boo, don't cheer, just sit on your hands and stare. Better yet, don't even go to the show. Don't watch the shows either. Talk with your wallet and your time.
As John Cena has shown numerous times, WWE don't give a f*** if fans are rallying against their story as long as people are still reacting to it. Apathy speaks louder than any chant ever could.

I now want to stand in a grocery store aisle booing products. LETS GO SHASTA! PEPSI SUCKS! Maybe some E C Dub chants if someone knocks a glass product off a shelf and it breaks.

NXT is WWE. You're chanting for WWE I'm pretty sure Vince's pride cares about these chants... Also potentially losing more fans who don't watch the main roster/buy merch anylonger is a threat you seemingly underestimate

Which is still Vince's pocket.

Not only is this not a helpful idea, when I hear them I think "this is dumb", even when they're for an NXT wrestler. Sure, that brand has grown and they've got something to be proud of, but the wrestlers themselves aren't bleeding black and gold or anything. There's no Paul Heyman serving up the finest NXT kool-aid down there. It's developmental.

The problem is that, now fans- especially the displeased ones- are savvy enough to GET some things. We know that shows like Smackdown or NXT are a taped show- we see the spoilers, we see the tapings. Because we know how the shows are run, we also know distinctly: If the crowd shows their displeasure by being completely quiet? Quite frankly, That'd be a STONE GROOVE for WWE. The WWE would LOVE it if fans are quiet at the shows and don't say a thing- solely because then, they'll be able to pipe in cheers for whoever the WWE decided they want the fans to "cheer" for, and can act like the wrestler's completely over. If the fans are silent and sitting on their hands, then within the show you'll suddenly see Roman Reigns getting cheers like one of the greatest ever- even if WWE covers it up by saying "These fans know how great Reigns's family is, that's why they're chanting "ROCK-Y!" at him for his cousin!" This ties to the same problem- even an "NXT!" chant doesn't work either- simply because they don't say anything that gives any help to change things. "NXT!" is too blank, and you can't get "BOOK RAW AND SMACKDOWN THE SAME WAY NXT IS BOOKED!" is even still too generic to make it work. In order to truly change things in the WWE, the only hope to do so- and indeed, if you look back at every single time it's conclusive that the fans DID manage to make WWE change their storylines to what the fans wanted, you can safely argue it for three distinct times (Matt Hardy's re-hiring, Zack Ryder's US Title win and push, and the YES! Movement.) In all three cases, they had one thing in common to make it happen: Chants like "NXT!", or even the GiveDivasAChance hashtag- don't fail because the fans don't want it, but because none of those chants have something to really consider those things a success story. "NXT!" chants...what do you want? Promotion of the NXT stars to be ruined by WWE? NXT stars to run roughshod against top WWE stars like Owens/Cena is? Booking Raw/Smackdown with the same quality that NXT shows get? Likewise- GiveDivasAChance was the same thing: The Divas' matches get more match time than they did at the nadir, often getting 10-12 minutes like NXT's women's matches have...but the Divas' characterization is still weak, the storylines border on nonexistent, and Divas' matches- even with match time, aren't at the same level as NXT matches...but at the same time, no one was willing to set EXACTLY what they wanted to happen in order to make it clear it was a "success", so it could dissipate without an actual goal set.

It's very clear that if Vince's pride is hurt by getting reactions he doesn't want, it won't change anything; his response to them is petty and stubborn. People booing John Cena won't make them revise or change any elements of his character, but they will do even more stories about how John Cena is just the best guy and you're wrong for booing him. Someone they have no intention of pushing gets over? Sabotage his overness by using him to 'get heat' on Kane. And when they can't ruin what you want, they'll just lie about it, as evidenced by the "they paid their tickets and can speak their mind" or "listen to these WWE fans chanting 'Let's go Sheamus!'"
For a fundamental change in the product to occur, we need either someone else running the show, or Vince to get as desperate as he did in the '90s.
