I think there is a larger issue at play here. Cena had a solid speech to the crowd that was well received. A few weeks back there were reports the Roman Reigns addressed the crowd at a live event and it also went over very well.
The larger issue is why can't the writers allow us to see THESE guys on camera since the audience obviously connects with their natural personalities.

Typical Cena making all the focus be about him instead of Cesaro

These are usually done as a bonus for the fans in attendance. Never been to a live show but I've heard they're not uncommon. No reason why the Network can't show footage at least though.

some people were crying at Cena's words for Cesaro. I imagine that was Teddy Long.

I think it would be a great idea for them to keep the camera's rolling and show the post Raw stuff on the network. I can understand not wanting to show dark main events but the speeches/celebrations wouldn't be a bad idea.

The fans weren't crying for Cena's endorsement of Cesaro. The WWE accidently ran Bret Hart footage on the big screen while Cena was talking and the crowd couldn't contain themselves.
(I know the Bret joke has been mentioned already but dammit I want in on that).

I'm glad fellow FAN posters are speaking out on what I have long said, which is that 'looking great in defeat' in modern WWE is the biggest crock of shit around that hardly even gets you a cup of coffee on next week's show. As was mentioned, Cesaro had an awesome match and beat WWE Champion Orton on a main event of SmackDown in February 2014 and followed it up with a 'looking good in defeat' RAW main event loss to Cena. That was 16 months ago.

It's a nice moment, but we've heard about things like this plenty of times, doesn't really mean much in terms of what we see. Maybe it strengthens Cesaro and Cena's bond, which would be cool.
And yes, Cena does this for himself too. He loves to feel good about being a swell guy. He also loves trying to win over haters in an environment where he doesn't fit in, by showing that he "gets it". Both of those are reasons for him to give an impassioned speech about his love for the under-appreciated Cesaro, in front of a bunch of rabid Cesaro fans who were booing him earlier.
He could've said those words to Cesaro privately, and probably has. But he also wants everyone to know that he feels this way about Cesaro. 'me too guys, if it were up to me I totally would've put him over tonight...', he's like WWE's middle management between decision-makers and fans.

From everything I've read and seen of him I don't buy that he is simply pandering to put himself over.
I feel Cena is a huge wrestling fan and legitimately is trying to get over guys that he appreciates working with. I think he also knows how tough it is to make it and wants to do what he can to help those guys.
He is honestly what every fan should want in a veteran wrestler. You can dislike his character, but John Cena the person is possibly one of the better backstage main event performers we have had in a while.

I saw someone embedded a much shorter (half as long) version earlier, but I don't think we're allowed to do that so I'll just link this one with Cena's full speech. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmbFq7zwgC8

Cesaro can go put on a dress and dance with Hornswoggle for all I care.

I was hoping that either owens interfered in the match and the PPV became a triple threat or cesaro won and since owens had a match for the US title at the ppv and cena gets a rematch it would become a triple threat match. granted in such a case cena would probably win the feud with owens by pinning cesaro or something. but cesaro's had good matches with both recently so why not let him mix it up with them at the PPV.

Oh thank you powerful and merciful Cena for your kind words. I don't know where we would be without you.

Cesaro can go put on a dress and dance with Hornswoggle for all I care. This implies that John Cena would actually present himself in an entirely different, novel sort of way as a WWE TV character, something he's desperately needed for years now. Doesn't matter. It looks like he'll never be appreciated regardless.

Who replace Cena with Bret Hart? Anyway, all meaningless. Don't get me wrong, Cena can mean every word of it but it doesn't mean shit to Cesaro's career. He's just a warm body for the announcers to gush over as he loses to the pushed. Yeah, I am bitter, that match pissed me off to no end. Sad part is, this isn't the first time this exact scenario has taken place, and it resulted in a negative for Cesaro. Remember Cena's "big moment of putting Cesaro over" to the live crowd that resulted in a thousand jobs and the complete neutering of everything that got him over in the first place? Like has been said, I'm sure Cena meant it, apparently they're pretty tight, but if you really mean it, and you really have enough stroke to do pretty much whatever you want (which Cena obviously does), then say it on the air, tell the tv audience, who is the audience that you're playing to on RAW, how awesome dude is. Otherwise, it's just drivel that doesn't go anywhere. Even if you say it live it often goes nowhere. I still remember when Cena does this for Ryder. He talks up Ryder on TV and a few weeks later Zack's playing the part of Kane's bitch. So while an endorsement from Cena is nice to get a superstar over with casuals, it doesn't mean a whole lot when guys like Vince still don't see any potential in you.

Might be the whole reason he is doing it. Just a way to tell wrestlers he likes that while the office may not believe in them he respects them and appreciates the work they do. Could also be his way of trying to help the guys by putting them over publicly and hoping the office will give them a chance. Either way its simply amazing that people are finding negatives with him putting over someone on the mic to the live crowd. I see no issues at all with the guy showing respect to the live crowd. Seems like an awesome thing for a veteran performer to do.

Gotta love fans saying 'Let me tell you what Cena really means and why he did this personally."

Gotta love fans saying 'Let me tell you what Cena really means and why he did this personally." Or bashing him for not using his position of power to push his buddies even though Triple H still gets criticized for it to this day.
