I prefer the order they were released. The first 3 are awesome, but Crusade just has way too much humor at times. Raiders is easily the best in every aspect. ToD gets far too much hate and is a well rounded sequel that is different enough to show that a sequel doesn't need to be a basic rehash. While Crusade was a rehash of Raiders, it still has it's own charm, the chemistry with the characters and ties up the series nicely. Skulls was a waste of time and effort. Temple of Doom is a prequel. And I love Doom only because its the first one I saw as a kid and the ending bridge sequence is badass.

I loved the interactions between Connery and Harrison so Crusades. I wish Connery was in Crystal Skulls. I want to see Connery murk Shai LeBlouf so much

Temple of Doom is a prequel. I know, but most people are going to group it with the other sequels and regards to a follow up movie, it was actually pretty damn original from Raiders in just about every way.

Raiders has stronger villains, but otherwise I think Crusade works better. More emphasis on comedy yeah, but the central story of how the grail affects the various characters and specifically the relationship between Henry and Indy simply feels tighter than the stuff with Ark and Marion in the first film. Raiders might edge out Crusade in action bits, but it never gets to the great emotional moments like Jones surviving the tank or "Indiana, let it go" (something that oddly enough even TOD manages with the Short Round/Indy relationship and the village kids coming home).
Also Marcus is so much more fun in Last Crusade.

I used to like Crusade more because of Connery and all the different locations and set pieces but after rewatching Raiders I find it holds up better.

Honestly, it's a toss up between Raiders and Last Crusade for me. Probably a narrow edge to Raiders. Temple of Doom isn't bad, but it's a bit too dark in my opinion. Still haven't seen Crystal Skull yet.

By virtue of Sean Connery being in it, and the chemistry between him and Harrison Ford, I say Crusade. I've always been disappointed that they never did another movie together.

They're about equal.
I absolutely prefer Crystal Skull to Temple of Doom, though.
If you want to hear Temple torn apart properly, find the episode of The Canon podcast.

I still don't get worked up over the supposed racism of ToD.
I mean the village Indians weren't eating baby snakes and monkey brains, only the Temple (theoretically Thugee cult) Indians were eating them. The village Indians offered up leaves and some sort of fruit. For that alone, it's enough for me the viewer to note who the sane characters are, and whp the crazy ones are. I always thought that was the point. No race implications needed.

I've never really ranked them, I like the original trilogy pretty much equally. Crystal Skull however was definitely nowhere near as good, I didn't hate it, but it's just not the same.

Personally my theory on why Temple of Doom was in India is that Spielberg was still sore for ET losing out to Ghandi at the Oscars I have no proof of this and the timeline probably doesn't match... but I mean even some actors appear in both!

The Last Crusade is by far the best.

The first, and for a long time ONLY movie we owned on VHS was Temple of Doom. Must have seen it at least 50 times. Eventually we go the other 2 films but to me it was almost as if Temple of Doom was the first one and the others were sequels. Guess chronologically that's how they are supposed to be anyhow. Never had any problems with it and it wasn't until I got onto the Internet that I learned that people hate it.

Pretty much same here. Last Crusade was my first Indy movie, and thus my favorite, even though I also REALLY enjoy Raiders.
Heck, summer of 1989 was my first big year of movies, and Last Crusade was a big part of it (next to the much more impressionable Batman).
To me the Last Crusade/Raiders relationship is like ROTJ/ESB - for whatever reason, Jedi is my favorite, although I know ESB (which I also love, just not *quite* as much as Jedi) is technically the better movie.

Never watched Raiders till the year AMC did a marathon of the trilogy in honor of Crystal Skull coming out. I always loved the fact that Lao Che was Senzo Tanaka from Bloodsport. Lol

Maybe he's good friends with Spielberg?
