See, that's just not fair. One, Piper instantly called Vince on it, and outright naming as Tony Atlas. And, the last name is actually an acronym. See? I'm Making Bucks Again Did you really just quote Eddie Ellner from PW Illustrated?

I can't find the picture anymore, I hope one of you guys has it somewhere: But I remember a couple years back a bunch of us got screengrabs of WWE.com when side by side they had stories "WWE Celebrates Black History Month" and an article about the WWE releasing an African American wrestler for the life of me I can't remember who it was. Shad maybe? The picture was sad/hilarious and I'm so pissed I can't find it. Somebody PLEASE! Help me, you're my only hope officialfan.proboards.com/thread/142804/celebrate-black-history-release-lashley

I thought it was hilarious when they did the Black History Month commercials with the same music that is in the Little Caesar's commercials.

I normally don't hold heat of the moment comments against people but Jesse Venturas "roots 2 McMahon" when Mr T was getting whipped by a belt didn't sound good.

Shelton Benjamin's promo on Yoshi Tatsu's ECW debut...just brutal. To be fair he instantly got KO'd and lost in like 5 seconds so it's not like they had him act racist towards Yoshi and walk away scott free with no comeuppance. The racism ended the perfect way, with the racist humiliated. Unlike Triple H and Booker... which if it ended with Booker winning would have been fine imo.

I still can't believe Ron Simmons went from first black WCW Champion to a joke in the WWF. I miss WCW. Pre-Russo WCW was INFINITELY better in their portrayals of non-white wrestlers. It's the most overlooked aspect of their past existence I'd say. In addition to being a senile idiot, Vince McMahon's been stuck in Mike Tyson's Punch Out land when it comes to other cultures and races, only taken at face value without realizing the satirical nature. Hence "Oirishmen who love tah fight!", dancing black guys, Latinos in gerneral as bull fighters, and worst of all Asians who are always "masters of the martial arts" who haven't made a LICK of progress in DECADES.

To be fair it's not just black or Asian people that fall prey to this sort of booking. If you come from a country other than America or Canada you are in danger of being stereotyped. Whether French, Irish, Scottish, Arabic etc WWE can't help themselves when it comes to terrible stereotypical gimmicks.

Whether French, Irish, Scottish, Arabic etc WWE can't help themselves when it comes to terrible stereotypical gimmicks. It's a tough subject, since stereotyping anybody is pretty damn wrong. I think the main difference is when those stereotypes move beyond "this is lazy, obnoxious, and wrong" and moves toward "this is lazy, obnoxious, wrong, AND it perpetuates a stereotype that is actively used to harm </whichever community>." So, like, Muhammed Hassan being made into a terrorist? REALLY bad stereotype to play on for Muslims on this side of the world (or anywhere else, but you get my drift). Mark Henry and others being portrayed as oversexed and uncontrollably violent black men? Still a stereotype that shapes the treatment of a lot of black people in the Western hemisphere. Meanwhile, slapping kilts on two Scottish guys and calling them The Highlanders? Stupid and lazy, absolutely, and something I'm sure many Scottish people wanted little to nothing to do with, but not bearing the same potential for harm. Hell, portraying Sheamus as "Oirish fella who loves ta foight" (just a few years after doing THE EXACT SAME THING with Finlay) is pretty harmful in its own way, too.

Some are not really any harm at all and are just lazy and eyeroll worthy. Like Becky Lynch dressing in green dancing a (terrible) Irish jig on her NXT debut just came across as very lazy and stupid and maybe a bit insulting but it's not in the same league as turning what was originally a good character in Hassan into a terrorist and doing it right during a time when tensions were high. I wasn't and never meant to compare any instances, I just felt the need to point out that through many decades WWE did and still do often go for the first and most obvious gimmick choice when it comes to non Americans or wrestlers of different races. I believe some of it is down to the fact that WWE does not believe their fans are the most intelligent bunch and feel that we can relate to these sort of characters more than more subtle and intelligent gimmicks. Maybe not so much now, but definitely during other times.

And "The Great White" Sheamus. Or something dumb like that. I still can't even believe they made a shirt. It didn't even look like a wrestling shirt, it looked like a vague white supremacist shirt. Like they couldn't fit in anything it to make it look like a wrestling shirt or have great white shark jaws or a great white shark or something? Hell Vince loves animal Kingdom stuff, why couldn't they call him the Great White Shark?

I know it was a long time ago, but probably the most racist thing this company has ever done is act like it was common knowledge that all black and Polynesian wrestlers have "hard heads" that would use headbutts and no sell headbutts from other people.
Again this was a long time ago, but the late 1980s/early 1990s is not exactly the Antebellum South either.
