I'm watching this on Youtube and I'm wondering, he was under contract, so what exactly gives?
Was this a contract breech? Somebody missed a detail? Because it wasn't a trade since no one made their way to WWE until Sting in 2014.

Because they let Flair show up for the Hall of Fame, if I remember correctly.

It was a trade since WWE were inducting The Four Horsemen and Ric Flair was under contract in TNA

So TNA would let Ric Flair appear at the HoF.

Yeah, WWE inducted the 4 Horsemen and asked TNA to let him attend, and TNA asked for Christian to appear at the TNA HoF and Slammaversary that year in return. EDIT: It was late that year that a guy left TNA's front office, came to WWE and tried to give them info on every TNA contract. WWE promptly fired him AND told TNA about it, then got sued by TNA for stealing their private info. After that I think only Xavier Woods came to WWE and he had been gone from TNA for awhile at that point.

If that's the case with what everyone is saying, then to me this sounds like WWE actually has a WORKING?!?! relationship with TNA?
They could use the help right now. How come there have been no other roster exchanges? I'm sure the WWE would have loved having Jeff Hardy, Sting and countless others in the fold at the instance of a trade.

There's a world of difference between "WWE or TNA superstars come to the ring and wrestle a match" and "WWE or TNA superstars will make an appearance at a glorified award ceremony", for one. Same with the guy who got fired from WWE for TNA's contract information- WWE and TNA could be rivals and still stop dead attempts at sabotage (like a few years ago, a Pepsi employee stole formulas and tried selling them to Coke, but Coke turned around, informed Pepsi about it, and they worked to bust the person for sabotage.)

This entire promo was just uncomfortable. It almost felt like Vince McMahon had a gun pointed at his head.

Man, I just noticed too he was Intercontinental Champion at the time too. Vince should've made him wear the belt to the ring and have them even announce it too. Dixie would love it.

He also got jobbed out completely after he appeared on TNA TV, as if it was his fault

Didn't they ask for something ridiculous before asking for Christian?

Didn't they ask for something ridiculous before asking for Christian? Knowing Flair, he probably operated under the idea of "Well if you guys don't let me, I'm just gonna do it anyway" so Christian was better than nothing.

I actually saw Christian in the bar in Arlington's Hilton after Slammiversary when he appeared. He drank a bunch of wine and didn't look happy all night. So much that when the bar closed and we rode the same elevator together I didn't even say hi or tell him I was a fan. He just didn't look into it.

Can you imagine the shame he must have felt after appearing on a TNA show after managing to get out of there the first time?

From what I can tell Christian didn't want to be there and only went because the WWE felt like it was a good idea. Really the WWE didn't have to send anyone and they could have had McDevitt annihilate any lawsuit attempt from TNA whether they were in the right or not. It kind of shows that Vince wants to do business the right way by sending anyone over there.
