Really?! Ugh, this company... Cherry too. Serena actually is unconfirmed, I believe Cherry herself confirmed that's why she was canned. I forgot about the DUI thing.

Really?! Ugh, this company... I never heard complaints about her being too fat. The story I always heard was that she was too much of a party girl in real life, with the segment about her getting caught in a bar drinking a bit of art imitating life. I thought she was actually arrested for a DUI, but that was later on, and it was boating under the influence. Yeah, that's pretty much it. She was said to have been fired because her drinking and partying was out of control, and she was constantly showing up to work badly hungover.

Unpopular opinion here, but it's one reason I'm sour on Mick Foley. Dude Love? And then blatant Mick Foley, it's all just a gag, bwahahah. So now he thinks he's above the industry that made him. Just comes across to me as a slap in the face of what made him. I don't judge against people who like him. And I'm not an full out hater of Mick Foley, but the way that whole thing played out just left a sour taste in my mouth. You can't all of a sudden transcend and think you're better than the "sport" and then once you're out still try to be on the inside like no damage was done. I hate when people try to play things both ways.
Same goes for the killing of kayfabe in general. There is a code in wrestling that's far different than your 9-5 job code. I don't like people crapping on the one aspect that made the game what it is. You could be the worst technical athlete on the planet, but have a gimmick that people hate in and out of the ring, and you're made. People stuck to that formula for decades, and thus actual loyal fan bases were created. Japan and Mexico still follow it to a degree, and thus a much more rabid fanbase that has surpassed the lack of devotion and emotional investment in "anti-Undertakers."
Wrestling is all about emotional investment. Novels are. Movies are. I don't separate Jack Burden from Robert Penn Warren in All the King's Men. I mark my butt off for him and relate like a bawss as if Jack Burden is some real thing. In terms of film criticism, it's so obvious when a celebrity is pulling a Mick Foley with a role. Thus, I hate it, getting by on the outside-the-movie merits the actor has earned and not the character itself. In wrestling, it's like everyone's suddenly afraid people are going to think [insert real name here] is crazy if they go old school and invest in who they are during the broadcasts. Wish everyone in wrestling wasn't such an anti-Undertaker. Commit.

Yeah, From what I recall she showed up/got completely bombed at a big company event. Which might have been the last straw.

Chris Jericho flip flops around this all the time. At times he talks about how he appreciates fans and tries to help them even if he's playing a heel with the reasoning that you don't see "Anthony Hopkins pretending to be Hannibal Lecture on the streets even if he's filming another Hannibal movie." Than he tell stories that when he first started being SRS Jericho, he was a dick to everyone or didn't acknowledge any fans during the day of a PPV because he didn't want one single cheer for him in the building.

Bray Wyatt called into his fecking podcast!

Not in the sense of someone who was the antithesis of the gimmick. I'm talking about someone who almost never lived their gimmick and would drop it in public at the drop of a hat? Someone who would be mad at if they were called their gimmick/ring name in public and would only respond to their birth name? I understand this is pretty unlikely given the nature of the wrestling business but I wonder if anyone had any long term success not "living the gimmick". Undertaker lived his gimmick in public? The same Undertaker who dressed like a biker and went to strip clubs with Kevin Nash when the company forbade it?

anti-undertaker would be the overgiver right? It's the Alive Man, the Overgiver! He has a massive WM losing streak until last year when he won

This is 100% Stephanie McMahon if reports are to be believed. If you work for the WWE do not f*** up around her and even vaguely suggest she and her on-screen character are the same. Which is rather funny because it reinforces the idea they aren't actually as different as she wants to believe.

Was it just NEWZ or was Serena really fired because she didn't live the straight edge gimmick in public? That, and because she was generally a Jake Roberts level mess for a while

Bray Wyatt by basic default of his character being somewhat supernatural has to do this, but even so he seems generally friendly in public

HBK kind of did it in WM25. My only other guess would be Hakushi but that's just going on his theme. Jim Johnson has said "If you ever have a Superstar that is, in some way, the opposite of The Undertaker by wearing all white, I’ve got a theme for him."
