"Roid gut" is very much actually "insulin gut" but who cares.
Most wrestlers were, are or have been on steroids. Lesnar, Kane, hell you can't even put it past the smaller guys like Ziggler, Cody, Ryder.
I'm not saying those smaller guys definitely are either but you get my point. It takes elite genetics to be 200lbs + at 10% body fat or less. At a height of 5'10 - 6'1 anyway. The odds are against most..
I remember reading a quote from Billy Gunn while he was in TNA where they asked him if he could pass a WWE wellness test. He said hell no, steroids have kept his body together and he hasn't been off in years. It's more surprising to me he was that truthful, rather than the actual statement.

There's no such thing as "roid gut". That's one of the dumbest terms imaginable. But there is though. It's been proven that abuse of HGH causes the organs to grow, giving the person a distended stomach, A.K.A roid gut. Granted, abusing HGH isn't the only way have it distend, but if a dude's coming back from injury with his arms double the size and just happens to have a gut, it's hardly a coincidence. Hell, I remember a friend telling me that some people in the bodybuilding scene even use insulin now, as it helps you gain muscle, but also increases water retention and "intra abdominal" fat, so that can give 'em a gut too.

Roid gut just isn't the correct term because steroids won't do that to you. HGH of course isn't steroids and you're right in saying HGH would cause organs to grow, but it's only at extreme doses that almost no wrestler would be able to do, for many reasons. What you see when wrestlers have the distended stomach, as well as almost all bodybuilders is Insulin abuse. It's been around as a stronghold since the late 80's early 90's, it's not something new and it's a hell of a lot cheaper to abuse.

That first pic is only a few years old. What is concerning to me is how often the physique of indy talent dramatically changes once they enter NXT.

^ I don't think it's something to be looked into too hard. If anything it's because you're typically talking about people going from part-time to semi-full time wrestlers training whenever they get the chance, to basically full-time wrestlers with constant access to trainers and top-of-the-line equipment, custom training plans, etc etc.
Some of them it's still a little noticeable, though.

Exactly. You spend damn near everyday of your life in the gym and in the ring you are going to come out looking. However, it can be noticeable if it's over the top. Neville is still on that line of good but the dude is jacked no question.

Meh barring the mid 1990s and a little after Benoit WWE has always been pretty lenient on the juice. Yeah, if you are liked by creative, Vince or Trips, you will only fail when they want to send you a message (Orton for example). Ya, while they've certainly cut-back considerably they've never had a PED-free roster. They'll always have a guy like Ryback around.
