Bradshaw being pushed as the top heel and champion on Smackdown comes to mind seeing as how he was in the APA mid carding in the tag division a couple months prior.

Every time they put Snitky in a main event spot it felt weird, even in his ECW days. The guy screamed mid-80s mid card act who inexplicably was got spotlighted in the mid 2000's .

The thread pretty much begins and ends with this. I mean, I know they had to do something after the whole Lesnar sandbagging incident (or whatever it was, depending on who you believe), but still, it was freaking Hardcore Holly in a WWE title feud. What the hell?

JBL getting a push didn't bother me. They did at least give him a whole new gimmick, and he was very good at playing it.
Definitely Bob Holly. What a piss poor excuse for a main eventer.

Gotta go Mabel.
Holly had one title match that wasn't even the main event of the ppv it was on; Mabel won KoR and then headlined Summerslam.

Mabel at least look like he could win just by being a 500 pound blob.
Bob Holly is Bob Holly.

What the hell? It was the Royal Rumble where all the big stars were going to be in the Rumble Match anyway. Hardly a main event push.

Not that I don't think Sheamus can be a main eventer, but when they put the title on him it was VERY random.
He'd been exposed to the RAW audience for all of 3 weeks
He won it in the middle of a PPV
Did not cut one promo before he won (on RAW)
They made it look like he won it by accident.
So they thought he was good enough to win the title, but not good enough to be treated like a main eventer?

So they thought he was good enough to win the title, but not good enough to be treated like a main eventer? I think it was a matter of some shock value, combined with a major lack of heels on Raw. Orton + Legacy were essentially the only high level heels Raw had at the time and if you only count Legacy as upper midcard, that means only one main event heel. Though WWE did do some stupid stuff with this. When ECW folded, Raw needed heels and SmackDown needed faces. So naturally WWE put big heel Ezekiel Jackson on SmackDown where there was nothing to do and he got hurt like a month later for the year, and they put Christian on Raw where there was also nothing for him to do until he got traded to SmackDown. So the Sheamus win got the title off of Cena and made a sorta-top level heel in the process.

A 40 min match with Cena where he loses because of a roll-up would have done him far more than that win, and then his title reign. They booked him so poorly
